PS And more shopping. A couple of light running type Tees with length and pecks capacity. I have an UA running top at home that is a US sized XL, here with Vietnamese sizes I needed a few more Xs!!

Paid a bit, fair bit over the odds, but still only a few quid. We’re just no good at haggling. Embarassed

And SWMBO bought a hat, she haggled 60p off the price of that!! Thumbs Up

Right you lot, culture time.

Today, well this afternoon following born to shop morning, was a guided tour to My Son temple complex west of Hoi An. Resisting the urge to give you all the facts & figures, mainly coz I’d forgotten most of them, so here’s a few pics.

Temple complex, from the same peeps that brought us Ankar Wat, well they built AW later.

Note Rule 8. Laughing Laughing

Bomb crater near by.

Two bombs that didn’t go off on display.

And shrapnel damage.

Guide says B-52s did this but I have my doubts, an Arclight strike would have done a lot more damage. Will look into it.

More temples.

View of the jungle.

And proof of the pud that it was hot (31c plus high humidity), was getting a little bit sweaty! Good running top. Thumbs Up

Back to Hoi An by minibus then boat.

View of hotel from the river. We may have left the lights on. Whistle

Was getting a bit peckish once we got off the boat. Resisted the lure of these bad boys, otherwise known as Kermit.

Instead had a little octopus. Well would be rude not to.

Was briefly tempted by the US$1 selfie stick, even though every time I saw someone using one I would say “I’ve got to get me a selfie stick”, much to SWMBO’s annoyance. Whistle

Then found a place we’d gone to before for spring rolls.

And Happy Hours for Mojitos, £2 each. We bought 6, I had 4 of them. Hic.

They tried to scam us on the happy hour business, occupation hazard here, just won’t be back. SWMBO is great at checking the bills, being an ex-accountant. Bow down Bow down

And finally we dropped in at our local Korean supermarket for ice cream. SWMBO zeroed in on the one that looked like chocolate, I had same coz it was heaviest.

We’ve never had an ice cream that we needed to read the instructions for, not easy after those mojitos!!

Right, bed time, off to stack zzzzzs. Pack up & move to Da Nang tomorrow. Thumbs Up

Luckily I used a good dealer. I never needed to use the nuclear option, sending in SWMBO. Esp with that hat! Whistle Whistle

Last few pics from Hoi An, all packed up & ready to head off to Da Nang. It’s pretty hot & sweaty today so living it up and sorting out a Grab.

Traditional wedding photos in front of the Japanese Bridge

And where you have traditional wedding photographs you have a traditional photographer! Thumbs Up

Boat on the river.

And nice view through the middle of one of the other bridges.

First attempt at that pic well and truely photobombed!

And last one of Japanese Bridge from across the river. Virtually no tourists and a lot of the lanterns and stuff removed. Busy season is over. Mr. Green

And bought another 2 UA running shirts, haggled hard and made the poor seller cut prices to the bone. Not! Got all of £1.33 off them. Now got to sort out what I’m not going to use and decide if I want to lug that stuff around for the rest of the jolly. Confused

Just got to summon up the energy and check out, the AC in the room is too nice! Big Cry

Lovely AC car from hotel to hotel, it’s the way to do it but SWMBO is missing the sweaty bus. I did say she could do it that way and I’d wave.

Now in this magnificent marble tower.

We didn’t push the boat out and get a sea view.

Hope we don’t get charged for this little snippet of a view.

SWMBO is impressed with the TV channel choice.

As I am with the weefee. Mr. Green

We haven’t explored the pool on the roof but it looks impressive.

Did I say I wasn’t that good with heights? Shocked

Been out for a wander along the beach, quick wander for 2 reasons. Firstly it’s hot, Robin Williams hot. He hasn’t had an outing for a while so here he is:

Secondly this hotel has afternoon tea thrown in, which is deeeeeeeeeeeelish!!

Short vid (converted from live pic) entitled “how not to move a bar” or the Great Vietnamese Bar Flight! And yes, I got seriously told off by SWMBO for photographing them and putting them off what was going so well. All my fault. Thumbs Up

Great view across the bay to the giant Buddhist statue, we’ll be looking into how to get there.

What might have been an aquarium but was the front door of the local seafood place.

Makes me wonder if this is the hotel pool or for the hotel’s restaurant! Shocked

And finally this gorgeous Vietnam/American War era MUTT, beauuuuuuuuutiful. Thumbs Up

Nothing to report today, had a bit of a bug this morning so couldn’t go too far from facilities. Embarassed Embarassed Basically a sleepy kind of day watching a couple of movies and doing some forward planning.

Only thing of note is I managed to leave my very sweaty baseball cap behind in the cafe where they have afternoon tea in the hotel. I was reunited with it this afternoon, not that I’d noticed I was without it. What’s more, it has been washed, 6 weeks of sweat and grime gone, slightly greasy feel gone, and a cute little heart shape left on the peak bit. SWEEEEEEEEET. Thumbs Up

Off down to explore breakfast, didn’t try any of it yesterday but will resist the urge to try too much. Hope you peeps didn’t go too hungry on the virtual 24hr diet! Laughing

PS Normal breakie service resumed. Thumbs Up Couldn’t face any of it this time yesterday. Sad

OK, this post will be a little pic heavy but a great day with lots of pics taken. Thumbs Up

I love the Soviet era murals in this part of the world. This one I got a pic of but when I tried to snap the one on the side of the street that housed the army base and museum I got whistled on by someone in very starched looking green uniform and told not to. It was a great mural but not worth getting arested for.

A lot of the exhibits were ex-ARVN stuff, hand-me-downs from Uncle Sam, all of their tanks in defensive posture with guns pointing back.

Great descriptions on the very polished plaques.

Nice early Huey, competed with 2.75” pods and a couple of mini guns inside.

Looks like it was used when Vietnam went into Cambodia to stop the Khmer Rouge after Vietnamese Reunification.

SA-2 Guideline as used against the Imperialist Yankee Pilots/USAF (delete as appropriate) B-52s and smaller strike aircraft like F-105s operating north of the DMZ (pronounced D M Zed, not D M Zee, by us. Whistle ).

Sweet little Birddog FAC aircraft, cute but wouldn’t want to be sat in one. Not surprising the Misty FACs over the Ho Chi Minh Trail used twin seat F-100Ds. Thumbs Up

A-37 Dragonfly, carrying lots of rockets!! Shocked

Big ass US gun, looks like the Destroyer guns from WW2, with a coupe of local school kids for scale. We Also have pics where a local young lady wanted a pic of her with the both of us. We’ve got a copy as we gave her mother (we think) our camera to take a pic. New experience for us.

Section from a B-52, prob towards the tail. Plus a big ass bomb behind it, MOAB?

French armoured car from the French section of the Vietnamese War.

CCCP = blast from the past, as on this Soviet supplied comms truck.

And a Technical Vietnamese style. Though I couldn’t help thinking that this is how Top Gear would do warfare and it would have Toybota on the back. Whistle

Good old trusty T-34s. No more modern armour like T-54s that fought at An Loc (last major battle before Saigon fell), should see those in Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi.

And a pair of MiG21 Fishbeds, one that shot down an F-4 according to the plague. We’d just been subtly warned not to wander too far after the MiGs ad that was the Army base, so SWMBO made sure I didn’t hang around or wander too far.

And finally to Marble Mountain. As seen behind these great examples of Vietnamese motorcycle ingenuity.

And after steep climb up to the temples. There was a lift but we needed the exercise. Thumbs Up

Panorama across the Da Nang valley area.

Obligatory selfie.

One of the temple complex caves, bit smokey but made great pics.

Back in the fresh air.

Weird photo thing going on. How to look like we’ve just popped out to Marble Mountain and sitting natural like, with half a dozen professional photographers.

Lovely part of the complex

And even bumped into SWMBO’s Vietnamese cousins. Laughing

And since it’s Marble Mountain lots of opertunities to buy, er, marble.

View of the Da Nang Dragon Bridge from the bus.

More Vietnamese carrying stuff on cute trailers.

Back to hotel after a busy, hot and energetic day, but via here.

No more SWMBO stomping on smalls in the shower using up all the shampoo, all u/wear needing washed and a pair of SWMBO’s trousers all done for £1. Mr. Green

Great pics Del, and yes you will come across more tanks in HCM and a Huey supposedly shot down by the VC.

Those three girls posing naturally are probably really really famous in Vietnam Rolling with laughter

You weren't tempted to purchase a small marble statue? Looks like they're catering for every religion known to man Laughing

We did notice the only religion not represented was Jedi. Thumbs Up

No not tempted to buy anything made of marble. We’d have to carry it around for the rest of the jolly so any souvenirs have to be functional, light and be able to fit in our packs, our pretty small and full. Whilst a statue of Budha would act as a most excellent tailor’s dummy for my XXXXXXL running tops, I’m not sure it would fit any of the other two criteria!

And today managed to hang on to my cap, have found a new use for the room’s kettle. A hat dryer. Whistle
