No chance heading out. Just a quiet night watching Terminator:Genysis. Besides, I need my beauty sleep and a travelling day today so early to bed = early to rise = early to the bus = lots of time sitting around Hanoi domestic terminal.
And re non floating golf balls, some poor lad will have the job of retrieving the sunken golf balls to resell.

And greetings from Hanoi Airport again. This time much less of a rush time so time to exotic destination on the tannoy. It’s only 1hr 55m but have blagged a couple of EmExit seats, though some poor sole will be sandwiched between us. Luck him/her!!
Usual line up of VA Airbuses, our A321 isn’t there yet.

But hiding in the background on the mil side of the runway is this bad boy. Rubbish pic but An-124 Condor heavy lifter.

A few more pics. A couple of heavy lifters parked up away from the terminals.

Approaching Dalat and weather not looking too good.

Might explain why all the paddy fields are looking very green.

Now in hotel with no AC (none have AC here), it’s high 20s outside, hoping the cutting and banging from site next to hotel will stop soon.

Luckily SWMBO did a sterling job in getting us moved to the front of the hotel. Lovely & quiet, just the odd toot-toot from the traffic that we hardly even notice.

Just a little.
Firstly must say Dalat is a very refreshing change from the smog & murk of Hanoi. The air is cleaner, we can see more and it’s a lot less humid. It was pretty much unaffected by the Vietnam/American War so nothing to see from back in the day.
And to today’s adventures. Another day, another cable car. We did get it to ourselves as the “local” tourists were reluctant to share our car. If it’s coz they’re worried about the cable breaking under the strain it ain’t going to help them if they are in the next car!! Mind you we had just hiked 3km up hill to the Dalat station, and it was getting toastie, so prob didn’t fancy sitting next to a sweaty moi. Sensible peeps.

Lots and lots and lots of pine trees, a bit of a novelty on this trip, unlike other trips where they are everywhere.
Temple complex at the top, hooching with visitors but snapped a quiet pic in between the peeps.
I can turn (excuse the pun) this pic into one of those clever/annoying infinite GIFs of a rotating sphere but no way of hosting it.
Then back to the Dalat cable car station for walk back to central Dalat. The station was hooooooooching with tour buses but very few peeps there. Curiouser & curiouser.

Great view of Dalat.

And a quiet lakeside pic. Lovely & quiet, plus looks like where the swans from Hanoi go for their holibobs.

Lastly, a rather cute old Beatle covered in AstroTurf in the middle of the roundabout just near the market.

Eh???
Last few pics from today. The night market is still going strong so going to be a hot, sweaty & noisy night. Only took a couple of pics as too busy trying to not get squished by the scooters, cars and vans that like to force their way through the crowds.
More avocados than I’ve ever seen in one place. They just looked very photogenic.
And lastly, a great use for a scooter. PPT, pampered pooch transport.

Night all.

A culinary and spiritual day today, Dalat Countryside Tour booked with naff all notice via a Hong Kong travel agency!
Flower farm first, not that exciting apart from a lovely strawberry smoothie.
Then a local minority house, seems to be compulsory on these tours.
Interesting but noisy, the crickets in the trees were deafening!!
Plus with all that ruckus Larry the Lizard was sticking his head out to see what’s for lunch.
Then a stop here for a little snack & see those bad boys being farmed.
Luckily they are not 5ft long, could never manage that many if they were that size.

See what I mean about not managing the 5ft version? They would need stronger tooth picks. They didn’t taste of much, bit like a very small crisp.
Also rice wine at 50% alco content. Pretty nice vintage with a bit of a kick.
Made very locally, just next to the cricket farm.
So would be daft not to combine the two products. SWMBO preferred it to the straight rice wine.
Then to a silk factory, unfortunately not working as it’s a national holiday today. Firstly silkworms (long stringy bits) and their cocoons.
Sorted in the plant, ready to be put in freezer to kill the worm bit.
And while there this lady delivered cocoons. That’s 66kgs of cocoons, for which she’d get about £300 so a valuable crop. Plus these ladies were moving these packages like they were a fraction of the weight!
Then off to the spiritual bit. Fairly new temple complex where they were building what will be the 2nd largest Buddha statue in the country, after Da Nang one.
Nice blossom, all fake of course.
And the Happy Buddha, at last someone to make me feel slim.
And a special mention for SWMBO’s Dalatian cousin, not seen many of her rellies for a while.
And finally, the “speciality” weasel coffee. Been a bit nervous about this part, more so than the cricket nibbles. The weasels are on normal food at the mo, they only eat the ripe beans Nov - Feb so they are pretty relaxed.
Feed the berries from these trees, Robusta coffee type mostly.
to these chaps
collect what they produce from the other end
and make expensive (for here) coffee beans. 30,000d/£.
Had to try it. It’s very strong but with the right mix of condensed milk & diluted a bit is lovely. Whether I could tell the difference is another matter, esp with the condensed milk in there.
And back to the hotel. Long day today so lazy rest of the afternoon planned.
