Gutted tow bar issues

Gutted and frustrated

Bought a detachable tow bar 18 months ago from landrover. It now has movement in it when towing. Spoke to landrover. Not prepared to help and said mine was not one to recall. Suggested I buy a fixed towbar for £255.

Decided to tweet a reply to every landrover teeet for the next 6 months just to be petty.

Thanks for allowing my rant

Don't all parts have a 2 year warranty? Have you tried that angle?

I wouldn't give up, there was clearly a problem with all of them!

Rather than tweet, why not speak to VOSA and make them aware that it might be an issue outside of the declared VIN range in the recall?

If you want to compare you can try it on my car and at the same time put by tow ball on yours to see if you can pinpoint if it's car or tow ball.

Send me a pm if you wish with your post code Thumbs Up

That’s a heavy duty bar without the height adjustment plate. I don’t have the plate on mine either as didn’t want to be carrying around the extra weight

That’s the fixed bar without the adjustable plate. If you tow the same trailer all the time and it fits that height you’ll be fine, I used one like that for 10 years. If I were buying one now I’d look at the tow trust one, it looks a lot neater.

+1 for the tow trust. One on mine and a nice tidy job too.

+1 for tow trust. I've got the removable one. No movement, no cluncks or rattles unlike my lrover removable one. I've got a lot more confidence in it. Fits and removes easily and when you see how it fits its just more secure.

Why not get one of those U shaped brackets that was sold on here not so long ago to prevent removable tow hooks from being stolen.
I had one on mine for a short while and when bolted up was as rigid as a fixed tow hook.

Yours is a 2010 according to your profile? Then I would suggest that you have been given incorrect information this is from the letter sent out:

See above it was not a recall but a customer satisfaction programme, its not listed on the VOSA website.

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/se...17&tx=

This is because it was deemed to be a customer misuse issue and not a flaw with the towbar or socket.

If I read correctly.... you bought a tow bar ....but have you owned the D4 from new? It might have done excessive towing with a removable bar in a previous life Question Confused

Could be that it has been in and passed under a previous owner, hence LR are no longer interested.
