You can try feeding a different video signal to the AV4 input of the GVIF and see if that works (when in reverse). If it does, then you can safely assume it's a problem with the camera and not the GVIF.

Its worth noting that even if the GVIF box gets the reversing signal - 12 volt + and there is no video imaging going into the Reverse Camera input then the unit will not switch over and stay on the Sat Nav.

ive worked out what it was...
- which is my own stupid fault i know
i bought a length of 1core screened cable and two plugs and made another cable up to test the unit to prove it was actually working connected on the rear view camera connection as required... this worked! therefore i knew it was the cable what was damaged...
i then removed the tailgate handle and i saw the problem... as the cables had not actually ran in any channels to stop it trapping i had to cut a groove in the frame of the handle, it was only thin plastic so with a stanley knife cutting two slots about 10mm each down i could brake it away and it left a nice channel for the cables to run without being trapped.
... After sorting my own stupid mistake, it all works AGAIN impressing everyone who jumps into the car, ive even convinced my dad into looking into buying a gvif unit just for the camera

allright!
If there is anything in your instruction you want to add and have not taken pictures of, please let me know. I can make them during my install and complete the instruction.

As far as the instruction for the GVIF and camera go, everything is there.

Small mod I did to my installation.
I added a diode to the camera red wire, between the rear light and the GVIF wires.
This will allow me to add a switch in the dash to switch on the camera without putting the gearbox in reverse.
The diode will avoid the reverse light to come on when using the switch.
I haven't installed the switch yet.

Hi all,
so what if I would put the camera on a permanent live and use the button to switch?
I'm planning to use the reversing camera only for hooking up to a trailer and very occasionally for reversing. This means I *don't* want it to come on whenever reversing. I could live with having to switch it using a button all the time.
Would it work that way?

Yes, that should work.
This is I would do it(if I'm talking BS someone will shortly come along and correct )
Take switched power somewhere in front(cig lighter) to the switch
Run a wire from the switch to the camera's red wire in the back.
On the same wire also connect the GVIF reverse power sensing wire(grey) for the automatic switching
You'll also have to find a ground for the camera's black wire.
Skip all the rear light wiring.
Might be a good idea to add a inline fuse.

Nice one flydive!
I achieved a similar result by use of a switching relay (it's in the next guide version)
My relay wiring is something like this (actually ended up putting the camera on pin 30 and the permanent power feed through pin 87 and 87a with switch - either will work):
The permanent live is coming from my second battery (YT) through a switch, so I can have the camera on at any time. I didn't modify the reverse sensing (grey wire) however, as I have split the video feed of the camera to go into the "rear camera" input of the GVIF and to a video mixer which in turn is connected to the AV2 input.

I've had my gvif and cam installed yesterday, but all I get is a white screen with a few black lines.
The sat nav pic is ok, so I can switch between sat nav and gvif, but cannot get any pic from gvif...
