.....last July

I witnessed a nasty accident on the M1 N'bound - the first to attend was a passing ambulance... we got all the drivers & passengers out of their cars from the fast lane...Motorway stopped at this stage by a very competent road maintenance contractor.

No major casualties.......only shocked drivers & passengers

The Police came next & merely checked all were "OK"......
It wasn't until the highways agency guys came the busted cars were moved from the fast lane of the motorway by one of the HA guys....moved very competently considering one of the cars had serious wheel damage
When the HA guys were there, they police handed the scene over to them.
 BREXIT - done properly.

Bet the HA guys are popular today....

They're practising rolling road blocks on the northern section of the M25 until 4.00p.m.

hippo,s

i would like to know why they have their vehicle angled out into the live lanes when sheilding broken down vehicles Question if someone does happen to run into them their vehicle is then sent out into live traffic......99% of recovery operators face into the verge when shilding a vehicle
by the way there is no fast lane ... Whistle

I really meant
the outside/third lane where (nearly)everyone goes (a bit) faster than the other two - most of the time

thanks for the technical correction.....

we will carriageway clear when able to do so....

its all down to what the stricken vehicle is and whats wrong with it. Auto stuck in gear.. HGV with brakes locked... traffic flow weather conditions etc etc could be difficult to move.

We carry tow straps that are for use up to 2.5 tonne.....the disco I'm sure is more than capable of moving much more Whistle we argue its down to the rolling weight but the powers that be disagree.

In an ideal world we would fend off do the traffic management bit get the tow strap on the stricken vehicle wait for my colleagues to turn up who would hitch up and tow to Hardshoulder...proble is on our bit of the network they could be 30 mins away.

If we can move it on our own we will.......if not it has to stay there for recovery .

Moved from General to Off Topic Rants etc.

They are only doing their job.

Its the government you should be ranting at, for turning this country into a nanny state with more rules about health and safety than you can shake a stick at Thumbs Up
