Handbrake
Could anyone shed any light on why I still have to adjust the shoes even when I don’t ever use handbrake. Every now & then I get a hot rear wheel. Adjust & it sorts it & then comes back.
It’s an auto so it does not apply automatically like the manual. This is doing my head in, any advice gravely received thank you.

Have you ever stripped them down and lubed the shoe pivots/linkages?
Old saying use it or lose it is one, that defo applies here.

Yes all lubed up & kept clean. I just can’t grasp how they go to the on position on one side or the other on its own from time to time. Even when I never usu it by the bible. I’m totally lost. I even have the software to fully retract & reset. I then fully tighten them right up & bring back 8-10 clicks as advised on here by bodsy.
Has the same so I but the bullet and after adjusting and bedding new disks and pads in started using and no hot wheel, the handbrake works well if adjusted properlyRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

Well I must be missing something because they are adjusted correctly. Work well for a few thousand miles & then comes back. I don’t use the hand brake because in my opinion not fit for purpose.

I apply the EPB every time I park. Haven’t noticed any issues with it so far. I’ve done that with my other vehicles too.

On the occasions when mine has decided not to play I chock the car when on an incline rather than let nearly 3 tons be held by a pawl in the gearbox - what makes you think its not fit for purpose - issues are with poor adjustment and lack of care - which you seem to do?

There must be some problem I’m overlooking. Iv done everything I can. Thanks for input guys. Was hoping someone would come up with something. This has happened since the shoes before which were on before I bought the vehicle. I put brand new ones on ( + I renewed the both dust shields & pins) thinking the old ones were needing renewing & it done the same. Hence why I reset & adjust & never use. I would do a test once fitted & adjusted & all working great. I just never parked on inclines as I was always aware of the damage that could be done to the pin.

No idea why yours acts as you say. But why do you think it’s not fit for purpose? It does exactly what it’s designed for. If maintained correctly it performs admirably. You don’t even have to work an old fashioned lever to operate it and it even releases automatically. It may be a wear part but so are the rest of the brakes and you wouldn’t contemplate not using them....

im told that this only happens with manuals not autos.

NOT GIT GOR PUTPOSE it's one of the best features of a D3/4. In 14 years of owning one I can honestly say I have never had a problem, I love the electric Park brake and one of the many reasons I stay with Discos.
I'm guessing your problem is because you don't use it often enough, set the CCF to operate the EPB every time the engine is switched off if you can't be bothered to operate it, release manually when starting off, blow the drums out twice a year and adjust as required and I'm sure you will change your opinion .
If it doesn't try operating it(pull and hold) at 30mph and see if that makes you change your opinion It can when others can't,

It goes where others don't.

Clean the drums out twice a year? U don't think that is in the service schedule.
But agree it help to service them bi yearly
