So what happend next....
Hi all, finally decided to buy a D3 2007/09 and to give a little background Ive been in and around the automotive industry for many a year, currently own my own specialist garage etc but little experience of Land Rover until I purchased a cheep winter run around last year. I paid the princely sum of £1,100 for an old 95 300tdi and it never let me down once 8)
For a little fun I thought I would pull up outside my local LR dealership in the old rusty girl (bang outside the show room) and ask for a test drive of one or two of their D3's they had for sale -
question is, what reception did I get

Did someone rush out and check underneath to make sure the 300Tdi's patented anti rust system was working and currently protecting their courtyard?
Then usher you inside, offer to take your soul as trade in on a shiny new one?

Have your D1 towed as it was scaring the potential Range Rover buyers.
Or slap a price on it!

Another thought occurs to me being as stealers like making money - did they offer to provide a conversion kit to make your disco 1 look just like a disco 4 at only twice the price of buying a disco 4

A D4 exterior on a D1 platform!! Got the looks of the D4 and reliability of a D1, a winning combo for sure.

yeah I think if it's not shiny and new or flash then you're wearing a cloak of invisibility.
I had the same thing years back going into a flash clothes shop and rummaging through the Armani, Versace, Boss clothing whilst wearing some sligtly ripped trousers and a climbing fleece. Well ok not Exactly the same, more like 'someone call the police we have a poor shoplifter in the clothing section'
edit - I did buy a shirt and to be honest it looked good but was crap lasting, if you want disposable clothes buy high price if you want them to last don't

He he he.
I did much the same when I had my 101.
I "could" have taken the D2 I was going to trade in, but it wouldn't have been half as much fun, especially when the salesmen can see a military bumper edging closer to a RRS while I turn round. Mike - 47° 51' N 19° 43' W
