Yep done it loads of times. It's a spectacular route. Most exciting for me was driving my Series 2a over it. It needed low box to keep moving! Just watch out for out of control cyclists!!

Isn't it just a tarmac road? All be it a very scenic and single track tarmac road. Not something that would be a challenge for a discovery except in winter conditions.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

if its closed due to conditions ie ice...I wouldnt go near it..some of the drop offs are very deep...you would never be found..

Discovery would eat the passes, superb in winter, the peace and tranquility when it's like this is amazing. Steady does it, this was me last year with proper snow tyres fitted, didn't miss a beat, the photo was taken at the start of hardknott, I obeyed the road closed signs and dropped down in Dungeon Ghyll, only having a lowly FL2

The passes are tarmac, not off road, most of the year you can drive them in a car. I've done them on a road motor bike.
If you want off road, there are some fantastic lanes at the start of Wrynose pass such as Tilberthwaite

Every time I've done it there has been at least one car being recovered with a burnt out clutch . First time I did it in a SD1 3500V8 the radio came out of the dash on a steep bit, did it in a Mercedes ML and every time I went uphill on a steep bit the oil light came on even though the oil level was checked and correct when on the level It can when others can't,
