Harmon Kardon in MY2013

Hello Peeps,

tweaking my new toy again...

I have an HSE MY2013 with the standard hifi and have an urgent need of giving it more ummmmpf.

Is it me or is it on the ever so slightly feeble side with regards to dynamics? I have treble, base and sub turned to the max as at low (read old bloke settings) they are a must. Am I missing something? Just wanted your views as have had loads of electrical problems and wonder if my system is delivering the proper goods.

As an addendum, is there an after market upgrade that everyone reckons makes a huge difference?

I find the same and in this regard it is much weaker than my D3 HSE. It only gets good at higher volumes.

The other strangeness is the difference in tone between FM and DAB, with FM being unusually flat.

What volume are you listening at? I think the standard system is ok at higher volumes but wimpy at lower ones.

I have a MY2013 HSE Lux with the 17 speaker 825 watt... its not wimpy at all. I have the treb/bass/sub turned up a little, but not much.

I think someone has explored upgrading to the better system. Maybe that is an option?

absolutely agree. Also have you had the DAB screech? gave me a severe fright the first time. Higher volumes I have no issue with, but realistically I'm not going to spend the remainder of my life deaf because Land Rover didn't add a "Loud" button for low volumes.

I also noticed that putting sound only in the rear of the car is truly tinny and awful, which again surprised me.

If I were to go down this route I think I would probably take it to a specialist car audio company, as I'm thinking that how ever much it cost from LR, the same amount of money spent at the local sound shop will give a much better result.

Me personally? This is the kind of thing that test drives are for. Why wouldn't you check for comfort, finish, sound quality etc? Especially when you're looking at dropping £50k for a car? Shocked

I just don't understand it. Every D4 I've had has had a superb stereo system IMHO, I have transported 5 teenagers with their "music" on loud on several occasions. If the stereo was lacking at all, I'm sure I'd have known about it. Rolling Eyes

Elsewhere there is someone complaining that the seat is uncomfortable on a MY13 HSE. Surely, you'd have tried adjusting it and then if you still found it uncomfortable, bought something else? Shocked Shocked

You would think...Wink

I tried out my sister's D4 and none of the various issues raised it's head. If the truth be known, although very happy with the ride, for a 50k+ car it does have quite a few shortcomings. When mine was delivered to me a whole bunch of electrics didn't work including rear windows. Back to dealer for a full reset. I was worried that the hifi had suffered the same fate. I also agree with another member that the seats are as comfortable as a park bench. Without prompting, all my kids complained on our Easter trip to Wales. And as for the sat nav...so I'm not yet sold or gooey eyed about the d4....and I may still return it to dealer....so there ya have it..

I find the same on mine.
Needs loudness in DSP. Not rocket science to do. Low and high frequencies cannot be heard by the human ear at low volumes.
You could get a most to analogue processor the a DSP (eg JBL MS2) to amps and the extra speakers. Idea

I must have a different system to the rest of you Laughing ...Having had the old Hi-line in my frst D3 ....then the Logic 7 in my last D3... I think the dynamics of the sound and punchy quality of the speakers are far superior than before. Confused Odd
