Harmon Kardon sound system, or not?
I had always assumed that since we have the SE model (05MY) and only the one circular speak on the front doors, as below, that we didn't have the Harmon Kardon sound system.
But then yesterday I noticed on close inspection that we have the little 'badges' on the top tweeters saying "Harmon Kardon".
The sound in the car is utterly astonishing; it's loud, crystal clear, sharp - fantastic. Add that to the badges then I'd assume we had the HK system.
But then I thought the HK gave two large circular speakers in the front. And to add to the confusion, we have the two-speaker layout on the rear doors. But then I thought HK only came on the HSE models.
I thought that there was a basic HK system on the SE, and a Logic 7 HK system on the HSE......... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Looking at the specs for current models it looks like there's the base audio, the HK Hi ICE pack (8 speakers) and the HK Premium ICE pack (13 speakers) and I'd guess you have the mid-range "HK Hi ICE Pack".
i have just traded in our 05 S spec in - it had the HK logos and the speakers laid out as you say. The HSE we have now has the same logo's on the tweeters but underneath it says 'logic 7' and there are two speakers in each of the doors instead of one and an active subwoofer.
when it comes to the sound output..... to be honest i cant really tell the difference! maybe its because the music i listen to and the volume doesnt really stretch the system.
if you are happy with the standard HK system then be happy!!

The website claims that SE and HSE both have the Logic 7 system, and the XS has the 8 speaker HK - but then why wouldn't we have the extra speaker in the front then?
Perhaps that's just the unreliable spec list playing up again though..2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Very happy with the sound, always though it was brilliant, so was just wondering if we were on the top-notch system. Clearly not 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

The SE has only had the Logic 7 since 08MY (possibly 07?)
TBH in some ways I preferred the sound from the HK Hi-ICE, as the active sub can be a bit obtrusive (or so MrsT tells me )Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

Older SE's had the 8 speaker system .
When i got mine in Oct 06 it had 8 speakers ..if i had of waited another 6 weeks it would of come with the 13 speaker system.
Trade off was i wouldnt have got front and rear PDC ,heated rear seats and no cooler box.
Plus i didn't wanna wait another 6 weeksG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The 05MY SE certainly does - I was sitting on it the other day whilst I was clearing out the boot and a bass beat on Radio 1 came on, I was almost thrown off the damn thing 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

ISTR midline jobby has passive sub, whereas HK7 has active (powered) sub, at least that is the way it was on MY '06. at least I hope that is how it was as I paid the uplift to the HK7 on my 06MY SE (amongst other things) and theeeeennn......???
Mine has the Premium ICE system, I think it's probably the best car system I've ever had, don't know how it compares to the other HK systems though.As you slide down the banister of life

I have a GS so no Harmon Kardon, however the sound quality is still pretty damn good, much better than my previous Base-7 models, wonder if LR put better speakers in now? It lacks bass though and I guess I don't have a subwoofer but it is OK for me.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
