Trawling through these forums it seems that the air suspension should make for excellent ride comfort . Have an 05 HSE and live in the countryside and feel every bump , dip etc in the roads with slightly sunken drain covers and shake through the vehicle like scuttle shake on a convertible .
Have checked the free hanging weights these are fine , tyre pressures are as recomended .
After 10000 miles in this otherwise excellent machine this does put a damper on it .
Anyone else think this air suspension is not all its cracked up to be , did hear clarkson bemoaning the harshness and how bad air suspension was over small bumps and have to agree .
Why does everybody elses glide when mine crashes over bumps .
Gorgeous on the motorway though .
Is there a fix ? has mine been doctored !! want to glide badly and start to love my D3

Are your tyres getting near the limit? Mine are and I have noticed the ride isn't as good as it was when I first got it, especially on country roads. Still great on M/way though

Mine spends a lot of time on (fun!) narrow single-track bumpy roads (at some speed ) It just glides about, with fantastic response, even on greasy lanes!
I'm Michelin Latitude Tour HP (replacement for the Synchrone). They don't look very exciting, but the grip, noise, wear (I'm on 25K and they look brand new), and fuel consumption is excellent. They also don't embarrass you when towing on muddy fields!

Sounds dodgy to me....
I've driven quite a few 4x4s and the D3 air suspension is in a class of its own. Even better than a Touareg for example on choppy terrain.
If have have checked the harmonic dampers and tyre pressures then I'm afraid it's time to get it into the dealers. Something sounds very wrong.
I can still feel potholes and manhole covers if they are raised/sunken, but it doesn't really upset the handling of the car much. In general it is very very smooth.
When you say it is shaking the whole car, do you mean that the tailgate rattles or something like this, or is the entire D3 doing funny things?
Do you know anyone else with a D3 nearby so that you can do a comparison?
Dealers are notoriously difficult to deal with when you go to them with "When I'm doing this, it feels funny" kind of faults. Usually accompanied by them saying that they've checked it and it seems fine.

...maybe just me but mine seems t oride worse when it is "cold".
When it is "warm" it is very smooth but straight from cold the ride can be a bit crashy....can think of no reason why that would be though. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Ours had a suspension collapse and did the same thing but to a worse degree (near undrivable) - take it to the dealers and get them to have a look. 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Thanks for all your replies , tyres are scorpions with new on the back , the whole car shakes exactly (as stated) like scuttle shake . I think i need to drive another disco to compare . I don`t think anything is wrong with the suspension (like starting to collapse) as does handle very good for such a big beast but does feel as though the suspension needs softening?
Had D3 at 22000 miles on clock ,now 32000 and has always been the same . seems to be no worse cold or hot

Olemisery, can I ask some stupid questions?
Are your wheels/tyres as per original spec? 255/55/R19? I know some people have noted the magic carpet gets wrinkles when different wheel sizes have been tried.
Also, have you tried a different tyre pressure gauge? I have had one that started accurate and then went mental after a drop. You might think you have 33/36PSI but it might be much higher. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

olemisery, You state " tyres are scorpions with new on the rear "
Would you be using new on the rear and used on the front

Missmatched tyre diameters between front and rear 'axles' will upset the centre diff and probably generate enough error codes to drop the D3 to it's bump stops , but I don't think it would explain the problem he's having...

Manual says you can replace tyres on one axle if required, but recommends replacing all 4 at once.

Can't believe old front / new rear would cause it.
More likely a missing balancing weight, or in my case a clod of mud added to the inside of the rim .
Incorrect pressures can cause some wierd effects too Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
