accepted- no offence about orphanages meant, and I know exactly what he means. There are more Hummers in Malawi than Discos- I kid you not, its crazy!
Anyway, back to car- some guy from back of his jouse pulled out a diagnostic machine and plugged in revealing 2 faults:
1) Crankshaft position sensor
2) fuel pump a bit dodgy
Are these real problems or sign of a generic dodgy diagnostic machine? Input appreciated!

Just an update and probaly a very desperate plea for help on this topic! Eventually, some LR mechanic decided the problem was a messed up high prssure pump; i flew in a reconditioned one from the UK and the car started working fine....for 4 days! The car then stopped again same problem as before. he suggested it may be the reconditioned part and i sent that back and ordered a new pump from land Rover. It was fitted and the car now starts but cuts off and continues doing the same. He now thinks there must be some air in the system which causes it to happen! It has been over 3 months and a lot of expense- any assistance will be highly appreciated!

If there's air in the system, then it will expel itself back to the tank.
Have you changed the Fuel Filter too? Perhaps it's one of the dodgy batch or just has some crud in there?Bodsys Brake Bible

The thing that confuses me the most is that changing the high pressure pump has meant the car will actually start (both times), in the latest instance it is different as it starts after cutting out. I have not replaced the fuel filter and there is every likelyhood with quality of diesel in Malawi that there is some rubbish in it!

kksav - I just sent a PM regarding your D3. As you have it listed as a 2006 - it might be a EURO 4 model if manufactured after August 2006. Meaning it might need a specific HPFP for countries with crap fuel. Regardless, make sure they drain the crap fuel you currently have out - before attempting another HPFP install.
Cheers,
Rob
