2017 advice required UK ref gurgling brakes
Hi guys, my 56 plate, 115000 miles D3 has just developed (or at least I have just noticed) the dreaded gurgling brake noise when idling and pushing hard on the brake pedal.
Does anyone have any recent UK advice / experience on this?
I have had the car 3 years, and serviced regularly but by a local indie. I think prior to me it was LR serviced, originally it came from Stratstones.
The pipe mod has been done, I checked that when I bought it.
Do I have a leg to stand on in getting this sorted by Land Rover? If so how should I best approach them?
I would really appreciate first hand experience from someone who has been through this, rather than general opinion that they "should" sort it as its related to a safety recall?
I have just spent £1500 on suspension work, service, tyres and 4 wheel tracking, so could really do without another hefty bill any time soon.

Assuming its oil in the servo why not remove the vacuum pipe and grommet and using a vacuum oil extraction tool remove the bulk of the oil, a bodge I know but cheap and you can monitor it from then on?

yes I was thinking along these lines initially, thanks - are there any how to's for this? I have searched but all I've come up with are people going back to dealers from years back. Not any DIY fixes. I tested the brakes today (hard) and it stopped as well as it ever has.2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

I’d go back to lr first armed with the tsb and insist it was sorted out. It’s a safety issue and shouldn’t have a time limit on it.
Having said that, changing the servo is not a difficult job. 1/2 a days work including bleeding the brakes. I also changed the master cylinder at the same time.Mark.

I would be wary of leaving as is, especially if engine oil is in the servo, as it can migrate into the master cylinder . Hydraulic brake seals and engine oil don't mix with possible serious consequences. That why on the recall LR changed master cylinders if contaminated.

The dreaded 2nd failure of the P017 recall,
You need the master cylinder, vacuum pump and associated lines replaced
I had all mine done at LR expense even though my car was 10
Years old, others have not been as lucky.

I'm so p!ssied off - I just spent £1500 on it, I might have to throw in the towel.2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Johnny, just pull the vacuum pipe off the servo and poke a cable tie or something similar down.
It’s a fairly simple job to do if LR don’t play ball, but they should fix it under warranty.Mark.

Its the pipe top left of the master cylinder - you need to take the drivers side "aux battery" cover off first - these are the only pictures I can find at the moment.

thanks - I opened the pipe halfway across where there is a quick release join, no obvious sign of oil when sticking a cable tie down both ways, perhaps a tiny bit.
I would like to take it off of the master cyclinder and do the same in there, but I am not certain how to remove the pipe from there, I pulled it as hard as I dared - it is joined by some kind of rubber bung.
Can anyone tell me how to safely remove this without damaging it?

This recent thread relates, the only point I will add to my "don't waste your time chasing LR" comment in the below thread is to not drive the vehicle untill the issue is properly cured.

thanks Sean.
Yes I agree, of course needs to be properly cured. What bothers me is that I could go and have all the work done, probably at great expense to myself, and then it could re-occur - and unless I hear it gurgling - which doesnt always happen I imagine (as it doesnt happen all the time now) - then how would I (or anyone in my position) know that I was driving a safe vehicle?
The recall mod appears to be a total bodge and attempt to pennypinch?2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

The pump seal failed on mine, allowing engine oil past - seals don't last for ever.
Nor do brake linings, bearings, tyres etc .....

agree with you about seals, tyres, brake pads etc Sean, but the point here is the recall mod is supposed to make it impossible for oil to reach the cylinder if the seal does fail, and it clearly doesn't.
However I have no doubt you are right and that asking LR to fix it would be futile - I expect I would be charged £100 for the privilege of being told that I need to spend another £10002014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey
