HDC Fault

My disco 3 has suddenly registered faults on the dashboard with messages like HDC fault, special function off and suspension will lower to access mode when I am driving it.

After stopping the car and restarting no messages on the dash and the car rises to normal driving mode but after a few miles it starts all over again.
I have left it parked on the drive overnight with the suspension on normal driving conditions and it is still in that position this morning. So not quite sure if this is a suspension fault.
Has anyone come across the same problem in the past.
Could do with some info before ringing land rover.
Thanks
Pilot

Could possibly be your battery or alternator?

OK thanks for that although I don't know how this should affect the suspensions.

Agree with Stephen, battery or alternator. How old is the battery, they don't last that long? Often there is no link between symptom & cause.

Just checked the brake bulbs and all seem fine. Just raised and lowered the vehicle and no problems with that left it on off road mode for now wil check it again later.
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

Did you ever check the battery? Confused
The HDC fault, special function off is the common "battery" fault when you start the car. Not sure about when its running, thats why I suggested checking the voltage Confused

I haven't checked the battery yet i purchased it from Halfords just over two years ago and I haven't had much of a problem with it so far. If it is the battery, whats the best way to check it.
Just spoken to land rover dealers and they said that it would cost 55 quid just to have it diagnosed.
Thanks

Check on your Satnav screen (secret Diagnostics screen).
If you don't have Satnav get one of these:

I got it over here, but I'm sure Halfords have one...

If not, Ebay or Amazon:

pa28pilot:
I had the same problems. Everything fine, drive for about 20 minutes, bong, special features disabled, bong, suspension lowering. Switch off + restart and everything was back to normal. It happened three times on three consecutive journeys. I trawled the forum and the general consensus was:
Replace both stop bulbs for genuine LR items.
Replace the Brake Switch.
Get your car plugged into a Faultmate and recalibrate the Steering Angle.

I did all three of these and the problem hasn't, touch wood, so far returned.
Both my stop bulbs were in working order but one of them did look a fair bit blacker than the other.
The brake switch ( which can be found by lowering the panel beneath the steering wheel. You'll see the switch, it's usually blue + white and operates from a bracket at the top of the brake pedal, it's very easy to see ) seemed fine but these little beauties can bring untold and many varied symptoms to the D3 owner so best to change it. Only costs about £6 or so for a genuine item.
Steering Angle recalibration was a bit of a mystery but there's a thread on here somewhere that points the finger directly at the steering angle sensor to also be a possible cause for these symptoms.
Here it is: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic64678.html

Good luck with it. Wink
