Do you really have to remove the grill and the head light units to replace the lamps on my Base D3 model, I assume they are halogenl?
As they are halogen I thought I might simply replace the lamps for the brighter blue direct replacements - good idea or bad idea?

Welcome Bongy
You can do it without removing the grille and units but its a bit fiddly to be honest. If you're new to your disco then it will be good practice for the future to take them out now Just a few tabs on the grille and lights, no screwbanners required ......
No opinion on the upgrade of the bulbs I'm afraid as I switched to Xenons - Bit expensive but a good upgrade and just plug and play A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
Tis a simple job to get the lights out, much easier than many cars.

I have swaped my bulbs for philips extreme in dipped & main beam. Certainly better than standard bulbs & a lot cheaper than xenons Cheers Ian

Yes, Xeon upgrade is easy. Remove grill, remove headlamps, fit new headlamps and refit grill, switch on headlights. Sorted.

I changed mine to xenons last night in the dark and look 15 mins all in which included changing 'side bulb' to led. Might have to use WD40 on the two brackets that you pull up if they have not been removed before.

Yes worth it - the difference is night and day. Probably at least 200% brighter and further beam spread.

I also find with halogen lights that you loose the light on wet roads, not with the Xeon units, bright white light on wet or dry road surfaces.ATB
