Brasso is THE stuff indeed.... I called it earlyer : “ brass polish”. A i didn’t know if the brasso brand is/was available in the UK.
Artists and everyone who works with Perspex is using this for “ages” and you can buy it almost everywere... if not allready in the cupboard or shed at home...
So no fancy kit needed, just ordinary (good) stuff & elbow grease

Used to use Brasso and then a final finish with some sort of furniture or was it silicon cream (so long ago i can't remember' to rejuvenate my motorcyle helmet visors to like new condition. Took some elbow grease on the kitchen table though but saved some brass over the years.

That’s very interesting ref the brasso, know my mum has a few tins in the cupboard and wouldn’t mind giving that a go
Wouldn’t have ever thought of that and that’s the beauty of a forum where old tricks are shared
Also many thk ref the peak chemicals as great to know of what others use
Thks again and will grab a tin of brasso in the week
Ps, just quickly can’t seem to find it, are xenon a straight swap plse or are there mods req as in headlight washers req
Many thks as always

Re the Xenon swap, if you are swapping the lights onto a D3 with air suspension they are an easy swap - just held in by two slider tabs and all connectors are in one wiring loom which is an easy swap over with no need to change pin locations. One final thing that needs to be done is the CCF file for the car needs to be changed to give the correct startup voltage for the lights as without this they will flicker on dip beam when first turned on for around 1 second the first time you turn them on from cold. I ran my first D3 for many years without changing the CCF after fitting Xenons and it always went through MOTs without a problem, the car also didnt have any Headlamp washers.
To meet MOT regs the car must have headlamp washers and must be a car with air suspension as Xenons must be self levelling and in theory the car does this with its air suspension as the headlights dont have the capability.
It gets more complicated if you want to put in lights from a different generation - ie D4 into a D3 or lights that have Adaptive Steering then there is wiring changes that will need to be made for it all to work correctly.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hiya
Many thks and that clears up a lot of questions I had, I have got a second hand bumper with the fog light cut outs so will be an ideal time to add the headlight washer to it before swapping the bumper over
As yes I did read all the different types of headlights available which I won’t bother with
May i ask plse did u notice a lot of difference between the halogen and xenons
Have a gap iid so can also change the ccf, blimey the iid has certainally paid for itself many times over
Thks so much once again

No problem
Yes the difference was immense when I switched over as a test a friend with a D3 and I sat next to each other in a wooded lane and the coverage and distance of the Xenons was epic!
Later when I sold the car I put it back to the original Halogens and sold the Xenons separately and received back about the same as I'd paid for them!
I wouldn't put the upgraded bulbs into halogen lights though as on a D3 they aren't as good (my friend fitted a set to his and we did the same test around a year later - I still won!) but also might be an issue when it comes to an MOT
The IID is a great bit of kit!Must stop buying shiny toys....

Apparently the D3 HIDs are the best. (D4 worse on main beam)
AFS ones are too much trouble to retrofit and unreliable anyway.

Regular D3 Xenons are the way to go if you can find some.
You can also upgrade the main light (high beam) on them to make them even better
The D3 AFS seem like a lot of hassle
My D4 has the MY 14 headlights as well as Hella Spot lights on the bumper bar - having a bit of a debate as to what to do with this when I change overMust stop buying shiny toys....
