sorry for the late reply - I've just noticed this thread. Have you tried your D3 with your current tyres? We run across Highland estates, over heather, peat, rock etc on standard road tyres, without too much difficulty.
My own D3 has AT2s and easliy gets to places my Defender on MTs, 2" lift and ARB diffs gets to.
In some places up here a more aggressive threaded tyre can break through to the soft, often liquid peat below the crust and then it's winch time!

Boby, set of 17" rims here without tyres, over priced for BIN as most folks buy them for the tyres. Might be worth a punt. I've got 2 set sof 17" rims from Fleabay which I use for on road, offroad I have a set of 6 FFRR 19" rims with MTRs.
hi everyone, thanks for the replys, AJS4x4 had a bargin but i couldnt i get them to me in time so i had to leave them
ive shod the D3 with AT2's all round. they seem a little slippery to me but its probably the freezing road conditions.
ive tried them in the mud and although the car wouldnt move in high ratio, she pulled herself out in low / mud ruts with no great issue.
i hope they do job, but i think a set of 17's and some STT's will be needed for future outings! lets see if santa can fit them down my chimney.
