Its just my OCD/paranoia Harold Laughing as well as my experiences, but I believe in doing it once and once only with absolutely no revisits. Thumbs Up

The tensioners are a very well known weak point on these engines especially as they approach 150k miles. Also, the chains have been known to snap on higher mileage engines, having repaired one such already myself. On the other hand, if it's not going to be a keeper he may be happy to leave them as he found them.

There is also the certain "peace of mind" that comes with knowing you have covered as many weak points possible, especially given the number that come with this engine. Rolling Eyes

I know i know Thumbs Up

But as said.... I suggested: Let it depend on the genuine/tracable mileage AND how it sounds now..

No noise there and low mileage, let it be... far more than 100k or noisy... do it now, since the work is far easyer now..
 Best regards
Harold

I know, that's what I keep saying too. She's actually quite tidy. But she has a purpose! Very Happy

I think I may be able to leave the gearbox in, there is quite a bit of room to get to the bell housing bolts. (Now the cats/downpipes are off)

Just got to work out where the engine mounts are! Rolling with laughter

What mileage is on it? Does it share any of the transmission components, TC etc?

It's got 116k on it, (bit less than the disco)

I'm not sure - I guess there is only the TC and the flexiplate both of which I have.

Hmm, I'm guessing there might be a bit more than that if it's a 6HP26!

In terms of transmission.

I dont need the jag gearbox (not suitable anyway) , or TC, flexi plate, starter motor, or any related bracketry for holding up the down pipe/cats.

The sump on the jag engine is the only other difference in terms of parts that touch the transmission, that will be replaced with the discos ladder and sump (new gaskets).

The discos gearbox and TC are still on the car, they will not be moving.

Essentially it may be that I dont want anything other than the block and heads off this engine/car. Anything else I need can come from the disco. Thumbs Up

well you have also no choice, nothing else will fit either... even the JAG starter is different... does not look that way, but it does... (there is a essential bolt there on the JAG starter who does not allow fitting on the LR ladder frame)
