auto box/ turbo noise.
Urgent help needed. Warranty on tdv6 s 2007 d3 expires in 5 weeks. 69000 KM'S ON CLOCK.
For APPROX last 10000km's noise appears under following conditions.
Only in 3rd gear under load just before changing to 4th gear.
Dopes not happen in command shift.
1) Whooshing noise as if waste gate is releasing pressure.
2) Droning humming sound as well, vibration can be felt thru throttle.
DFuring last 4months dealer has replaced front and rear diffs as well as lowe control arm bushes. They are very helpful but are unablke to diagnose problem.
Any ideas any body.

Droning could be wheel bearing.

Help - D3 TURBO/AUTO BOX NOISE
I need help from who ever where ever.
I am in George; South Africa.
Towards the end of August I posted a similar thread. Since then just after the car was out of gaurantee auto box was replaced for Land Rover S.A'S ACCOUNT. COLLECTED CAR 2 DAY'S AGO PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS,
HERE IS THE PROBLEM.
Only in 3rd gear normally under load just befor changing to 4th gear the car often makes a whooshing noise followed by a droning noise. This happends in all gear box modes.
Before auto box was replaced gear changes were sluggish and noise was often accomponied by a vibration. Vibration now gone and changes smooth. Top intercooler hose has recently been replaced, it was needed, but whooshing noise still there.
Can any body give some indication of what problem could be and a possible solution. The car does not appear to smoke or lack power, but if decline in power is gradual I may not have noticed it.
Have asked about EGR'S but all experts say it is not the EGR'S.
Could it possibly be a bottom turbo hose causing the whooshing noise and perhaps then causing an exhaust drone?
Seeing as it onlt happens in 3rd gear could it be a hardware/software issue.

Hi Maroni,
I will let you know the outcome when I get her back. The re-ma;p has helped put with my lack of power, now pulls like a train, all the way from about 2000rpm upto 4000rpm.

Latest update. A very competent D3 expert from Land Rover Soutrh Africa drove my car to-day and I was informed that the noise that I reported was a characteristic D3 noise and nothing to worry about. Strange that I have not seen more replies to my question if this is so. Any ideas anybody. I am fortunate to have a very helpful dealer.

My dealer could not diagnose my issue, they said it was because I have blanked off the EGR valves
They then went on to say that as the noise could only be heard under load & could not be replicated by revving the D3 while on a ramp, they could not find anything wrong.
Conclusion, wait until something really goes t ts up & then repair it.

If there is a vibration under load, check the centre bearing/bush for the driveshaft. Mine is vibrating at 100kmh under load and the bush is soft. I am sure it will get worse and I'll nned a new driveshaft. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
