Help to fit a towbar. (adjustable height)

I am trying to fit an adjustable height to my D3 and am having some problems. I have taking the bolt out of the chassis rail to take the support, but the bracket that holds some piece of big swinging metal has jumped out of place and I carn't put the bolt back in. How are these brackets realined, do I take the bumper off? Please help.

Same happened to me. As far as I remember mine only moved a few mm but enough to cause misalignment. I think, (can't look as the car is away for MOT) I just used a lever to get everything back in line. Maybe use a large screwdriver through the holes to assist in pulling it back down. What I do remember was a lot of sweating and swearing before it went in. Good luck, just keep perservering. Thumbs Up

Same for me as well, as I recall I also needed to re-align using a screwdriver or something similar. I also recall not tightening either side up untill all bolts were in place. It was a job that should be dead simple, and is once its done, but caused quite a bit of frustration.

I definately didn't need to take the bumper off though.

Hate to be the bearer of late news, but I dont think you needed to take that bolt out, as its a funny sort of bolt within a bolt. Sorry Whistle

sounds like a screwdriver or lever to realign is whats required.

AFAIK the bolt through the chassis part needed to be removed in order to put in a longer one which takes the new tow bar spar. (as I remember). Lining up the part inside the chasssis to put the new bolt in was the tough bit on mine.

When I took mine off, I thought it was the "inner" one I removed to release the side bars (spars), with the bigger one staying in the chassis - different again on the 09 model when it came to refitting Whistle
