Help? Latching relays

I 'need' a specific type of relay, but my lack of knowledge is making it difficult for me to find what I want.

According to wikipedia, I need a two coil latching relay. When current flows one way, it makes, and when it flows the other way, it breaks. In between, it retains its state.

Closest I've got so far is this one:

but I don't think it's what I need. I think it makes and breaks on current pulses, irrespective of direction, which is no good for what I have in mind.

Rob, not exactly what you describe but I have bought relay delay modules and other bits from these lot:

http://www.quasarelectronics.com/index.html

they have a huge range of pre-assembled kits and modules, there might be something they do that might fit what you are after?

Vehicle Wiring Products do a Latching Relay, but I'm not sure that'll do the job either.

What circuitry are you trying to build???

Already seen the one on VWP, but I think it will switch on any pulse, not dependent on the direction of the pulse.

As I've already hinted, the ultimate project is top secret, but I'll give you a clue:

Having been involved in some of the early R&D that has inspired Rob's project (I had some early involvement in one of the failed early manual versions - there were shards of plastic all over the place), I can assure you guys it'll be fookin' awesome when it's done Thumbs Up
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've found another way to do it. Components are readily available. It's just a bit less 'neat'

Almost exactly... OK, exactly exactly. But since I'm tight, I'm going to do it with two £1.50 relays instead of one £20 one. Thanks for your help Thumbs Up

Does the relay have to remember which state it is in when the vehicle's ignition is turned off?

Ignition circuit doesn't come into it. As for remembering state between battery disconnects, it's not really that important.
