HELP !! Not the usual suspension Woes. |
|
Hello Fellow Forumers !!
Sorry in advance for a long post !!!
Im in dire need of help !! Both mentally and with this D3 !!! Close to Mental Breakdown with it, spent no end of my time on it !!
I've fixed and had the experience of umpteen D3's + L322's and non have beaten me yet. HOWEVER !! This one is coming close.
2008 Discovery 3, Manual Car . XS
AMK Pump. (presumably left the factory AMK)
Purchased with Yellow Suspension Light permanently on... I plugged it in,
Fault was the Temp Sensor on the pump.
Repaired the wiring (someone had put the two wires together ? ) Pump then working, but tank underneath rotten so wouldnt pump up...
Bought a new genuine tank/reservoir from Guy Salmon. (sorted)
Car goes up fine... be it a bit slower at the front than the rear.
Once up to "normal mode" it is fine... However, if I press the switch and put it to off road mode, it then faults upon returning down and says "Extended Mode blah blah".... Repeated presses of the switch and it will come down, but throws "Exhaust Valve" as a fault.
NOW !! Before you all shoot me down and say "pump"
The Original pump said "exhaust valve" so I bought another off ebay, i tried it and it also faulted the same "exhaust valve". Returned it as faulty.
Bought another known good one off a breaker I know, working fine in the other car.... puts into this 2008 car.... "Exhaust valve"...
So, another pump.... still exhaust valve..... NEW Exhaust valve from Guy Salmon, fitted.... YEP Still the same "exhaust valve"
I've checked the wires for continuity and condition from pump to up behind the NS headlamp (doesn't have the connector by the passengers feet, it's a 2008) and all seem ok.
I've checked all the Level Sensors are Free... and one was stiff (NSR) so I've repalced that and managed to get it to re-calibrate. (car does sit level)
I've also checked all the pipes, nothing seems to be blocked or kinked or trapped, and I dont mean i just quickly looked, the Disco is virtually half apart, sheilds out, covers off etc....
Changed ALL THREE (one at a time to try and fault find) Valve Blocks, Front, Rear and the one in the middle.
Swapped out and checked (but it was fine) the Transfer Control Unit behind the battery, as I've been a victim of that before with another one. thats also ok, and other known good one didnt make any difference... still faults.
I've also changed the Air Suspension Control Module (one up on the A Pillar) and that admittedly will only throw a VIN fault... so getting this re-coded could be my next step unless someone has any bright ideas before I drive it into a wall.....
With its own Air Suspension ECU... (A Pillar one)
Faults are "Exhaust Valve" and the Suspended Mode thingy and seems Slow to come down at the front.
probably 1 in 5 attempts it just works fine.
With this second hand Air Suspension ECU (A Pillar one)
Fault is U1A35-62 VIN Data (As Expected)
but it will go up and down... but still does the "Extended mode" and seems Slow to come down at the front.
Unfortunately I cannot programme the VIN on my Maxidas MS906....
Can anyone help ??

Beyond my experience ... however "Car goes up fine... be it a bit slower at the front than the rear." unless it's painfully slow is how they should do it, so headlamps don't dazzle oncoming traffic. .

So I went around in circles with a similar problem on my D3 a year ago. The issue is that the vehicle is not lowering quickly enough and the ECU believes that the car is beached. This means that the air is not being vented out quick enough.
My fault was introduced by fitting a new tank and pinching the feed to the front valve. Raised slowly, extended mode on lowering. Unbolted the tank and replaced the flattened hose and it’s been perfect ever since.

I also had a similar issue to this. Mine would raise fine, but when lowering from normal mode to access mode, it would go into extended.
In the end it turned out to be one of my front struts that was preventing the car from fully lowering. Replaced them and problem solved! Kev

Worn out dampers preventing the car from lowering. Kev

Now you have checked that the CCF was updated to AMK compressor as this will cause odd faults. I believe most came from factory with Hitachi or Dunlop compressor during that period.

Sorry for the massively delayed reply like most dead threads Sorry.
It turned out to be a trapped pipe beside the front of the tank...
still faults occasionally but its the exhaust valve sticking occasionally, but in general its sorted.
