Help please- tyre problem - Urgent advice needed

I have a TDV6 andhave fitted some Kumho tyres (coz I couldnt afford a set of scorpions at the time)

They are 255 60 18 108H

Had a puncture last night and when I went to National tyres this morning the tyre fitters have just told me that the 108H means that I have the wrong load index fitted for my car, and that my insurance would be invalid in the event of an accident.

First of all is this correct
Second, what is the official load index I need to get fitted

I am worried that they may be correct and I am faced with a £800 bill for a set of tyres

Thanks in advance for guidance

Yes, that's correct and 111 is the 'proper' load rating.
Only your insurer will tell you if it's invalidated it, but my guess is that it may well do. (especially if it gets them out of paying out for a claim!)

There's a set of FFRR wheels on e-bay which are brand new & woiuld be cheaper than a new set of tyres from your tyre place.

The other thing is, did you TELL the tyre fitter specifically which tyres you wanted to have fitted or did they provide the options of which ones were suitable & you chose from that?

If the later, then I'd go back to where you got them and demand a full refund as not fit for purpose.

If it was the former, then you're Censored 8)

Good luck

mxgeldar7, were those tyres recommended by a tyre fitter or did you specifically ask for them to be fitted ?

Either way the fitter should have checked and told you they were not load rated for the D3.

May be worth speaking to them and asking for a trade in against a new correct set ? You have had wear out of them regardless I guess. If they refuse go public - BUT ONLY if they were in the wrong of course.

I may be assuming that the tyre fitting industry are working under a regulatory body that protects the consumer from mistakes and wrongly fitted tyres of course.

Had a BMW with 18" front and 18.5" rears once. A large tyre fitting chain fitted 18's all round before I got the car (company car) and was told by the company fitting a new set that I was extremely lucky not to have had an accident and that my insurance would probably have been invalid (well companies insurance).

Went back to the fitters that put the wrong ones on the back and they gave us a credit towards a new pair valid until I needed them Thumbs Up

Yeah... but then I knew what to look out for.

The car had the tyres on when I had it. Mind you, BMW service centre didn't notice either which is just as scary.

I didn't know. Correct.

I STUPIDLY assumed that having the care handed to me by the company, after a service by the BMW dealer near Stockley Park, that the thing was in fine fettle. Thud

And the damn thing was capable of 140MPH plus - not that I ever tried to max her out of course.

Thanks for all the advice guys

fleabay may be about to see a spare set bought (well she doesnt need to know I'm doing it does she!)

Tomorrow I'll be heading over to the tyre dealer and ask a few pointed questions ...... I may also query LR Insurance to see what the status is (anonymously of course!)

Cheers

Paid a visit to the dealer this morning - Tom Tully in Speke, Liverpool

Took on board what I said and without question they rang their supplier, arranged for new 112V to be delivered and told me they would swap them and fit the new tyres for "about £20 each"

Can't complain about that sort of service - even though they got it wrong to start with they have sorted it out now (well almost - they will have on Monday morning!!!)

Top man, that sounds like a good outcome.

Just out of interest, how long have you had the Kuhmo's on? & what are they replacing them with?
