I think you mean flippin ages !

Unless you have a good mix of screen wash to water to avoid freezing in the first place. Then the heated nozzles to their job and leave the exit path clear.

I don't even attempt to use the washers until I see a sign of the ice melting around them and then only give them a quick occasional squirt until I'm sure they're clear (when water finally hits the windscreen). For the avoidance of doubt ... do they come on with the rear or front or both heated screens ?

Sorry, I wasn't that clear, I meant , is it the front or back screen heater that activates the heated washers. Suspect its also tied into the heated wing mirrors ?

Cheers

I think the heated jest are on all the time... a small current runs through them from what I Understand.

I tried the front heated screen (ie have to keep activating it as its thermostatically controlled) but didn't seem to make a difference.

The mirrors are heated all the time too are they not ? Not checked. Freelander's are (well ours are).

I think the only way round freezing up is to have a high concentration of screen wash in the tank and prime the system post refills.

I'm sure I read that warm water is only sprayed when you have used the washer above a certain number of times in a set period and the outside temperature is below a certain level.

I always use a high concetration (Halfords Lemon flavour at present) The couple of quid it costs is a lot better than replacing fuses!

Also, I've read that the headlight washers deploy every 3 goes, with the head-lights on, but not on mine, or I've lost count ...

Maybe someone with a carputer can sus out a HUD for the manual ...

I think its every ten washes, within a set period, for the headlamp washers.

HEADLAMP POWER WASH

If the headlamps are on, and there is sufficient liquid in the washer reservoir, operating the screen washer will also power-wash the headlamps.

The headlamp power wash will operate on every fifth operation of the screen washer,
provided that the headlamps are still switched on and 10 minutes have elapsed since the last headlamp wash.

Switching the headlamps off and back on again will reset the cycle.

If the vehicle is fitted with the Terrain Response system, the headlamp wash will operate every third operation of the screen washer in all Special Programs

Heated washer jets
If the ambient temperature falls to a point where icing of the washer jets could occur, power is applied to heat the jets provided that the starter switch is in position ’II’.

From the manual.

So the screen wash is heated if the temperature is correct and the light washers may be?

Thanks to those who posted replys to my plea for help - it was appreciated. Posting on the Forum was a bit difficult linking up a PDA with a Mobile Phone (especially as the signal was not that good).

My D3 is in with the Dealers tomorrow getting its Compressor and Valve replaced to resolve (fingers crossed) it's long term over-night sinking activity. I've asked the Dealer to sort out the Washer fuse, and to raise this as an issue with LR (which I will check tomorrow has happened when I drop it off).

Np only the tips of the front washer nozzles are heated and only then when its cold enough. Pipes are lagged but not sure if the tank is though.

A nice little heating element run by the FBH would be a good thing though to avoid freezing all together.

I've just bought some ready mixed screen wash apparently good to -8. 5ltr bottle so should be about tight to fill up the tank Wink

If this freezes I'll be well peeved !
