Help - Tailgate won't open...
Suddenly today the tailgate will not open.
On touching the handle there is no sound but the tailgate does open using the 'emergency' release (pressing the lock & unlock buttons on the dashboard).
I've looked though the threads about this fault but cannot find an example were there is no sound of the mechanism working when the tailgate button is pressed.
Can anyone help?

you need someone to pull the tailgate open at the same time as you press the emergency release buttons.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

woody / wiggs,
thanks for speedy replies - I took the rubber cover off the switch to find lots of white ?oxide, cleaned it all out with lots of wd40 and its working again
Couldn't work out how to remove the switch - looks like the plastic unit is in two pieces but not sure how they come apart.
As I expect the oxide to return any idea where I can find a replacement switch?
Interestly I noticed the "Ford" badge on the back of the rubber cover!!

The whole plastic handle / switch and numberplate wires are all one part unfortunatly .
You need to take the handle off the car and undo it from the inside to change .
Stick a blob of grease in the handle were it touches the microswitch ..proberly be alright for another yearG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
