Help with wheel and AT tire set up

Hi All,
Question on behalf of my brother in law who has just purchased a range rover sport 2014 Shocked which came with 22" alloys and standard road tires.
He tows a horse trailer in and out of fields several times a month and has always had M&S tires for that extra traction.
Only tire made for these size wheels is a RADAR RENEGADE AT-5 108V which neither of us know anything about.
Other option is to downsize the alloys to 20" where the choice is better.

Putting the ride improvement aside as the vehicle will only do about 3k a year so not overly important. If you put 2 identical RRS next to each other one with the 20" plus a set of M&S and one with the 22" and the Radar AT tire would there be any difference when towing in and out of a field assuming driver ability the same and ground conditions equal.
The option of not having the cost spending out on new alloys would obviously be preferable.

Can't really help with the tyres, but surely selling the 22s would pay for a set of 20s, or even see if anyone is up for a swap.

Hi,
we had 275/45/21" Pirelli verde all season on ours and Tintenting never had any issues on camping fields, How many times has he Actually got stuck in the past Question

I would stick with standard tyres (or go 21" as I have one for sale Laughing ) and see how he gets on yes AT should be better but the RRS are quite good off road and if your getting stuck it may be time to call the tractor with AT or standard tyres on Rolling Eyes

Then see what to go for when they Need replacing Question

PS thats if its a L494 ? earlier model fit 255/55/20 AT's and sell the 22" ?

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply, Thumbs Up
Hes never got stuck in the past and im guessing has put that down to having the AT on. He quite likes the 22's so would rather put a set onto those rather than down sizing. Always get a bit of snow where he is so another reason for having them on.
I think its just the unknown of the Radar Renegade AT5
