How to be a Hero

Just for one day............... Laughing

16 year old son comes to find me and say's 'Dad, Xbox won't work, keeps cutting out and stuff'
Now my son, like most 16year olds spends too much time on it as far as I'm concerned , but thats because I'm a GOG most of the time according to him 8)

Said I would have a look, when I had time. Spent a hour looking on line to see how to open the case. As the majority of comments online said it would be a build up of dust inside.

This am I spent an hour opening the case and cleaning the power supply unit, drive and fan cooling unit. A few tricky little connectors, but otherwise a 8 and 10 torx plus a trim tool will get it all apart
and more importantly back together again. A ton of dust was cleaned out with a brush and low pressure air line

Sorted Very Happy and under test as he has Fridays off from his college course

Normal service will no doubt be resumed tomorrow Laughing

I love the "and stuff" bit. About as descriptive as my teenager gets too!

My lad would never have come to me in case I'd tried to mend it Laughing but there again he builds his own PCs for gaming. Just every now and again though I do surprise him and do something practical.

My girls wouldn't come to me but that's only because I taught them how to build their own pc's, they can also do basic car maintenance and stuff like light a fire without matches, lighter or firelighters. In fact perhaps I taught them too well sadly they dont come to dad for much Sad

Good on you and your children. It takes effort but is worth it in the long run.

I try and prepare my kids for the future and to stand on their own 2 feet.
My favorite saying to them (which rolls off their tongues): Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life.
