HID Headlights - different part numbers...??
As many know (as they’ve kindly helped me with my many questions!!) I was originally looking at upgrading the bulbs in my current Facelift Halogen units, but having cracked under peer-pressure I ended up purchasing a set of Facelift HID units (from a breakers) – and subsequently a set of upgraded bulbs for these!
I may be worrying over nothing, but the photo in the advert for the HID units showed a sticker for one of the units with a part number of:
EH22-13W029-DE
Whereas the two lights that have arrived are:
EH22-13W029-GE and EH22-13W030-GE
They’re in great condition and are definitely HID’s as the ballasts are on the side and the bulbs themselves are HID, but what does the DE and GE refer to??
It’s not DE for Germany and possibly GE for Great Britain is it?
The other difference is that the advert sticker says:
L319 14MY Headlamp-HID- RHD RHS
Whereas the ones that have arrived say:
L319 14MY Headlamp-ABL- RHD RHS (and ….. LHS)
So why are ones in the advert “HID” and the ones that have arrived “ABL”, what does the ABL stand for??
It could just be an innocent reason in that the seller sells many of these units and has just kept the same photos on the advert, in fact its still on their eBay site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated please……

Thanks, I tried googling first but couldn’t come up with anything other than lights for sale, I couldn’t see any differences between any of them. The DE lights appeared to be for sale n Germany hence me wondering if they were German spec.
So. I have “adaptive” xenons!! what is special about them?
Many thanks

Nothing if you don't have the adaptive set-up, the difference is the lights corner with you, so if you turn left the light swivels that direction.
My HSE has adaptive lights and i love them, also had the same on my Audi.
But the need wiring and an ecu to work. Though I think they can be set-up as standard xenon from the car cfg.
You need to get someone with more LR knowledge than me to verify that though. Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.

Thanks, do you think I will have any issues with them being adaptive but not having the ECU or wiring?
I’ve just received my IID BT today and am all registered and set-up, I’ve had a quick play and enabled the timed-heater and saw an option for switching on the xenons, but nothing regarding them being adaptive or cornering?
(Can I just say how helpful people are on here! I’ve been in loads of different car forums over the years and this has been the most helpful of the lot!)

Not sure, I’d like to think you can say what option you need.Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.

Yes you can put adaptives in, just that the adaptive (swivelling) bit won't work. Almost impossible to get the adaptive bit to work as well, as said you need a new ECU and a lot of wiring. No one here has successfully done it on a D4 as far as I'm aware.
The ABL in the code is LR speak for Active Bending Lights, better known to us as adaptive xenons.

You will probably find the lights you have purchased also have cornering lamps fitted. You might be able to get them to work by enabling them. Cornering lamps illuminate at low speed when the indicators are on on the side you are indicating.

Thanks mate, much appreciated!
So it looks like I have got ‘better’ lights than I thought I was going to get, but annoyingly I won’t be able to use the part that’s better!
At least they’re not ‘worse’!
Presumably without the ABL ECU they will just remain pointing straight ahead?
Once they’re fitted and I have enabled the Xenon setting I’ll have a look if there is a cornering setting...,
Thanks again

Yup, the failsafe for adaptive lights is simply to be static in the straight ahead position. They are better lights than you thought because probably have cornering lamps as an added bonus. From memory the IID cornering lamp settings are odd, I think there is more than one setting so might take a bit of fiddling and it assumes that the wires for the cornering lamps are fitted to the car (they usually are but I seem to remember someone tried for ages to get them to work on a very late model D4 and couldn't only to find the wires weren't there!)

Thanks again, I’ll fit them at the weekend and let you all know how I get on, especially regarding the Corning lights...!!
I also happened to get hold of ABL lights and fitted them to a car that was built with halogens. The thread captures exactly what you are about to do and pinpoints the CCF flags to set in order to activate them.
When I did this I also upped the speed threshold a little so the cornering lights come on at a higher speed than the default setting. That was via another additional CCF flag that I don't remember what it was called but when you search the CCF file flags you will realise which one it is.
So the xenons work, no bending happens of course, and the cornering lights come on when expected.

Yup and the thread that is linked to above also contains the post for the member who discovered that the red wire to pin 4 of the headlamp was inexplicably missing on his vehicle.
