What is the Hidden Menu

Finally ordered a replacement multi CD head unit for my 55 HSE. When I fit it, I was also thinking about trying the RR nav screen mod (putting a switch in the middle wire), but not sure I'm up to soldering and the brightness fix thou Confused

I've seen several references to a 'hidden menu' on the Nav Screen, and even some pictures, but can't find any info about how to bring it, what it does etc.?

Do you need a code reader, or is it just a case of pressing different button combinations somewhere?

Thanks for any help.

This will help you, I think: https://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Hidden_Menu

Thumbs Up

you don't need anything special for the hidden menu. It's not that exciting though.

The brightness mod isn't for the faint hearted.

You need a reverse camera and
someone with an IID tool for starters

Thanks. That's what I thought. I never use the SatNav as it so out of date (and I have a TomTom), and the 4x4 info is pointless on the road, so figured seeing the radio or something would be more useful.

I'm hoping the brightness will be OK, but if not guess it will go back to the original D3 configuration...

About the only thing 4x4 info is good for on normal roads is if you're lowering or raising the vehicle. It'll show up in the right corner as "lowering" or "off-road" or "access". Also you'll see whether you've got any of the terrain programs on. As you said, mostly useless - beyond looking cool if the GUI from 2005 can still be thought of being that, of course Thumbs Up

I skipped the RR mod part. It didn't seem interesting enough and there were enough caveats that I just thought I'd be better off without it.

The hidden menu is similar, if you have been there once it really isn't a place you'd frequent very often. Rolling with laughter

Reversing Camera!

I may be getting carried away reading the various posts on here, but if you implement the RR screen mod, it looks to be fairly straight forward to add a reversing camera provided you get an NTSC camera?

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sat-nav-rev...ing+camera

However, before I get too carried away, am I right in thinking that even if I get everything wired in properly and use the RR screen mode, I would still need someone with a diagnostic to enable it?

Also, where do people who've added cameras tend to mount them? Would be good to see the top of the towball for reversing onto trailers...

yes you really need someone with a diagnostic tool. But I'm sure you will bump into one some day.

usually fit them above the number plate for reversing
but for towball hook up, in the bumper I think.

If you aren't under pressure when hooking up the towbar you can go into the hidden menu, (which takes about 5 seconds with practice) and see a nice picture.

It's not for everyday reversing, but would be good for tow hook up.

All you need is a camera £11
Farak adaptor £7

and time to run the cables in !

If I were you I would get 2 off of the above, as it takes time putting the cables in.

No diag tool, no RR switch mod, required. Just 5 seconds of pain getting into the hidden menu, which will easily save you 5 seconds getting the tow hook better alligned

Here is a really nice write up someone once did on this forum. It might be useful. He didn’t use RRS mode but a GVIF box.

you need one of these to connect into the back of the display.

https://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/nav-screen-c...e-p34.html

and then whatever you need to connect to the trailer.

well as you are only going to use it when towing.
What you do is...

Hold your finger on the top line of the display for 3 seconds. (in the middle)
Then hold the left button (nav hard key) for 3 seconds
Up pops a keypad.
Enter 753 and press OK
Select Video Inputs test.

You now get a FULL picture from the camera
You can change the video format & aspect ratio.

This is good for you as

1) you get the full picture (not one with bits cut off)
2) It works when travelling forwards. (as well as backwards)
