Hids4u question re Upgrading bulb in spotlights
Ian(Hids4u) or anyone, do you know what I can upgrade my "Hella" spotlight bulbs to,they are 12v 55w I want them brighter/more powerful
Is there a LED bulb that will suit them and the D4 ?

HID will be the way to go to get brighter - choose one that's the same bulb type and crack on - but check if your lenses are glass or plastic if going OTT on wattage.
Yes you could go all out on a hid conversion, but how often do you have them on, and do you want instant bright light?
Hids take a while to achieve full brightness, hence in xenon headlamp units the main beam bulb is still a halogen.
I would look at uprated halogens, like the brighter osram cool blue range, I think there are a couple of options intense and hyper, and also the nightbreaker and the ring extreme bulbs first Altox GSM FBH controller thread

It's not the watts, but the Lux that matters, it's how a low energy bulb works, they are circa 11 watts, but as bright as a traditional 60 watt incandescent bulb Altox GSM FBH controller thread

55w is the legal limit, any more and it is not road legal.
Increasing the wattage will increase heat as well as light output for a given bulb type. Hence if you go down the old rally route of using 100w bulbs, be careful.
The Philips Xtreme bulbs seem to be well reviewed, but I have not tried myself. They are road legal and according to Philips's web site produce more light.D4 SDV6 HSE 11MY - Gone

Why not just go for some of the non-road legal LEDs (H1 I'm guessing). Presumably, it doesn't rally matter if they are not road legal if used in off-road driving lights. Some monster ones with external supply on there!
Edit: meant also to add, the Philips/ 0sram are an improvement but aren't astonishingly different. I have the night breaker in main beam because I wanted to keep it legal.

Get a couple of the Ebay and see if you like them before you go spending on "more expensive" ones you can get 2 delivered for under £4. There not everyone's taste as they are intense.
