I do have mine on and use it a lot. I have had my car a while now and have really got used to the slight flaws in the system and find it easy to react to them and knock main beam off when necessary. I find that bizzarely trhe quickest way is to pull the stalk towards you and let go and automatic is quickly cancelled. To turn it back on, push the stalk away to full beam and then pull it back to dip and auto is back on.

It's a great idea but as it's not 100% effective, I find myself hovering over the stalk, ready to react, just in case it does not operate. While I'm doing this I may as well operate it manually. I'll probably activate again on journeys with less country lanes. Discovery 4 HSE Santorini Black 2012

Just wondering if this was an option in addition to adaptive headlights. How do you enable/disable. I assume i don't have them on my d4 hse landmark as i can't see any meno option or way of turning on/off. It does have the adaptive lights option? 2011 sdv6 hse le

To enable, you press OK on the steering wheel, go into vehicle set-up then select high beam assist. Discovery 4 HSE Santorini Black 2012

Yeah I agree, had it on my last Merc (useless too). Also going in my "useless" bin I propose the following "features":
"Auto dimming" mirrors

Keyless go
Programme wash wipe / one last wipe

"Heated" screen wash hahahahahaha still frozen after two weeks

I agree about the auto lights not coming on when its foggy etc, sure my last BMW were a bit more sensitive and while we're talking I only have one headlight washer working. It's works pretty well most of the time in my D4 and when it doesn't the on coming traffic is usually pretty quick at flashing their head lights at me which always wakes up the D4 and it then dips the lights.
I've noticed that some drivers are too lazy or inconsiderate to flash their headlights and force me to pass them with my Xenons on full beam so I get to see them with disconcerting, zombie bleached white faces. I've also noticed the Xenons give them that red-eye look often seen on photographs.
I've not noticed the sheep emoticon before so thought I'd give it a go.

Now that the nights are drawing in, I'm giving them another go. As well as the left/right delay mentioned above, I find they are not so good when the screen is wet/dirty.
Does anybody know what they are 'supposed' to do? SideSlope

FWIW Mine seem to work really well. Just the occasional glitch that's all. It IS a driving aid and as such, whilst it is meant to ASSIST it is not meant to be an autopilot type feature. The ultimate responsibility ALWAYS remains with the driver. Just MHO

I have to say a lot of my driving is on country roads and the high beam assist seems to work fine 99% of the time Cheers Ian

I do most of my driving on country roads and it works about 70% of the time. Flat long bends are the worst where you can see the lights of the oncoming car but they are not in a position that the sensors can pick up.
often you then find that you go to manually move them off beam only to find just as you do it the car lowers the beam and you end up flashing the car in front.
The sensors work better in some cases than my BMW Z4. That gets caught out by road signs far more than the Disco. However, it works better on bends than the disco. Possibly as the car is low down and the sensor is better positioned. It doesnt like marsh mist though where it stops working altogether. The disco hasnt had any issues there.

Yes, I'd agree that they are better than 70%, so gets my vote! I'd say over 90% if you include those heart stopping 'will they/won't they" moments SideSlope
