When I enquired about replacing mine a couple of years ago on a D3, I was informed that it is bonded in place with some strong stuff. Maybe the same stuff as used on windscreens!?
I remember it wasn't a cheap part from a main dealer either
Hope that helps but others may have the secret to remove it successfully.

I think you'll find some posts on here about this if you search - but I understand the conclusion was that it is very difficult to remove and replace - but the best option is to employ the skills of a professional windscreen fitter - as they have the tools and experience to do the job quickly and without damaging the tailgate.
I hope that helps

Steve, you need some windscreen cutting wire. To try and do it properly. I ended up damaging paintwork with the wire. I ended up using a chisels and a knife but required body shop before refitting.

Pain in the 'arris to remove, took me 3 to 4 hours.
I'll find you a link.
I took mine out when I fitted the tailgate spoiler. If you intend to refit the same light unit, this isn't for you as I destroyed mine getting it out.
Try this, but be warned, it's not for the faint hearted: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic103279.htmlMods:

I cracked mine when I opened the tail with a load of wood on the roof rack
I assumed it'd be a quick lens swap, then local indy mech told me how hard it was.. so I superglued the crack instead. Used that kicker spray to hurry the glue up, it went white, with a long drip down the lens!
At the time it was the worst bit on my car and annoyed me, but then after an underground car park height restriction sign fell off its chains onto my bonnet I gave up on aesthetics and now just think of the girl as the van she really is..
