High mileage D4

Been looking at a high mileage D4 HSE 99000 miles it has FSH as you would expect. Would there be any major concern in buying such a high mileage D4?

Nope, none at all if the price is attractive.

It might just be my experience, but the more you use these disco's, the better they seem to get, as long as they've been serviced correctly.
Thumbs Up

I would prefer a car that has been consistently used for long journeys than a car that has just run to the local town and back every day.

The 2010 D4 I bought back in March had done 142,000 and it is now on 147,000, The only issue I have is the usual "only normal height available" warning which pops up now and then which means the air compressor needs fixing/replacing but other than that its been sweet!

When is the cambelt due, is it 105K still? Is it the same cost of a job as a D3, would be worth factoring in.

Yes I was wondering about the belts. The D4 I am looking at had a service at 90k but I don't think it has had the belts done.

Lots of suspension parts (bushes, ball joints and also steering arms) need replacing, typically between 80,000-120,00 miles. I'd want to know what's been replaced and what's original. If you're lucky it will all have been done, if not, factor that into the price.

I'd also want to have a megaflush on the gearbox, if one hasn't already been done.

Apart from that, I'd not be worried at all by high mileage. Good luck Thumbs Up

We had a guy diving here a couple of weeks ago....was asking him about his D4...he has done roughly 80,000 in 18 months, and reckons its better now than it has ever been.....as advised above, stick to the usual basics of checking service record and maintenance receipts and you can't really go wrong Thumbs Up

As another post says the drivetrain just seems to get better but count on lot of bills for suspension/brakes at 8-10yrs. My has only done 112K but in last 2 yrs has had new compressor (unnecessary - it was a corroded connection) new front and rear lower arms, front hubs and steering arm or track rod ends - can't remember which, as well as broken tailgate latch and new PB drums. also both rear calipers have failed at different times, needed new pads and discs each time. Trouble is when you've spent that money you have to keep it - don't want to give someone else the benefit! .
