High pressure fuel pump

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove/replace the high pressure fuel pump without removing the body. I suspect the pumps gone but could do without the big bill and until the pumps replaced I doubt very much wether I will find anyone to buy the disco.

Yes, can be done with body on. I had mine replaced and wasn't stupid money. LR dealer.

I was quoted £2000 and told the body needed to be removed, I literally had the car 3 days before it broke down so another 2k on top of the purchase price is what I'd came sill money. Is there a walk thru or guide I can look at by any chance.

was that from a dealer or private as 3 days I would be going back to a dealer
 Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

It was privately unfortunately it was also bought a couple of hundred miles away so the journey home was quite along one and as I'd put those hundred miles on myself I felt a little bit uneasy about contacting the seller over something which I doubt he had much knowledge about or an idea was going to happen.

I have a Haynes manual for the Disco3 and it covers the replacement, At one point I thought mine needed it and it looked relatively easy (body on)

What makes you think it needs replacing?
 26 and on the 4th LR..
Series 2a 1963 88'' 2.25 Derv as original with Galv chassis

I'm about 90% certain that it the pump is faulty, the car cut out after about 3 miles of driving checked fuses and relays, checked timing, read fault codes and drained the tank incase is used the wrong fuel (I hadn't). I've got fuel at the low pressure fuel line but when I crack the injectors I get nothing, the injectors are completely dry with no sign of fuel, so my thought were fuel to the pump but not out it must be the pump. I've done a search on google and stuff but couldn't find any guide or anything but was informed by a guy at LR that it's a body off job that I should be leaving to them!

Have you checked that the rear Hpfp belt has not gone, does the car run at all?.

Don't presume that the HPFP is at fault if the injectors are dry. It could be an incorrect or missing signal somewhere or something as simple as the belt letting go.

I have checked all the timing is correct and also made sure both belts are still I one piece, it looks like the guy had the belts done not long ago which was nice of him. I think it's the pump because Id assume if there was no signal or a sensor was faulty then I'd still get fuel regardless at the injectors or the pump. Also the symptoms sort of fit, when it broke down I managed to get it started again but it would only tick over and would not rev above 3000rpm before it cut out and failed to start completely.

How many spanners is say the timing belt? I could do 3 out of 10 but 3 out of 3 sounds like a big job!

Just checking but we are talking about the pump in the engine bay rather than the one in the tank, a couple of hours seems a bit quick to tell the truth!
