The honeymoon is over.

The disco presented us with its first Land Roverism since buying it back in August. SWMBO went to go out in the D3 this morning. Starts the beast up and then comes running back in, "Theres something wrong!!!! Theres something wrong!!! Its in park, but it says D and SPORT on the dash!!!". I told her to stop the engine, try and wiggle the gear shift a little and try again. Thumbs up from her, so off she went. She wasn't sure if "P" was on the dash before she started the engine. I think it would not start if not in PARK??
Looks like I have a little bit of gear lever pivot work to keep me occupied. Thanks to the forum, I know what to do, cheers fella's. Thumbs Up

Didn't think the key would come out if it wasn't in park, so unless she managed to get it out of park before trying to start...

Glad you said that Martin!! I just realised that I have been having a bit of bother getting the key out a few times lately?? Could be significant?? Thumbs Up

DD was discussing the problems facelifted D3s (some peeps call them D4s) with a friend of mine last Monday. He thought they were bullet proof reliability wise. Sure enough on Thursday red triangle and "restricted performance" on his 3.0 XS, stealer diagnosed 2nd turbo solenoid failure. He now sees the funny side of "At least the R in LR doesn't stand for reliability!". Snigger

old sailor, was SWMBO using the spare key or the normal every day key?

reason for asking, collected a vw pheaton today where the key would not come out of the ignition, it would start the car etc and suprise surpise the message centre said "put in to park before removing the key" despite it already being in park. Seems the key used to move it was a spare that had lost its charge and needs to be recoded hence why the funny messages and the inability to get the thing out of the ignition.

might want to look at getting a replacement key for the one that's difficult to remove before its too late Shocked
