Just had exactly the same problem NS rear wheel, put it to my local 4x4 garage and it turned out to be a sticking caliper piston, the guy dismantled and cleaned and reassembled...£30 + the dreaded.

Well, got a call from the dealer at 4pm. NSR caliper was well and truly welded on! Unable to wind it back at all and pads were down to 2mm
New caliper along with pads and disks on the back to be fitted tomorrow as they didn't have a caliper in stock today.
Will it survive another weekend?!?

Not bad really, had it 5 nights before it was in the garage, hopefully won't be on first name terms with the service adviser. Although, fortunately, one of the guys at work lives a 5 mins walk from the garage!
Quite glad it landed within the first 30 days/1k miles as it keeps the selling dealer on hook.

Thanks for all your advice guys, got the car back today, caliper replaced and a nice set of shiny pads and disks on the back.
Definitely improved and MPG has risen since the work.
However, there is still a noise which builds and resonates about 50mph and although there's not the heat that was in the disks before, I'm not convinced they are running at only 30C. Not a loud noise and can't be heard when the radio is on but not convinced it's just wind or tyre noise.
Going to book it in for a 4 wheel alignment and get them to check all the bearings and I'll also try to get hold of an IR thermometer to see what the running temps are.

Maybe I'm just getting paranoid and it's the wranglers making noise.

Have heard that well worn Wranglers get noisy, castellation or something. Never driven on them so never experienced that.

Rich, it's going back next week to get looked at, either bearing or a diff. Not had it on jacks yet to check the bearings so may well have cooked it while it was seized.
cheers

Well.........it appears that the caliper wasn't actually replaced in the end the last time.
How do I know, well, because it seized again and is definitely being replaced this time. Think it's also cooked my new disc and eaten into some of the new pad so I'll be looking for a new set of them too!
Nice to know you're on first name terms with the service advisor! Wonder if I can make it a whole month without phoning him this time.
Ahh well, at least it's getting washed on a regular basis.

Ewan I sympathise with your wallet I just had both rear discs/pads and the NSR caliper replaced, picked the car up again today and this weekend I will change the front disk and pads.
My NSR calliper didn't give me any warning, no hot wheels, no noise, no smell just went on one round trip and munched the pad which in turn munched the disc Ah well the bright side is new brakes all round

Fortunately, it's not cost me anything between the warranty and supplying dealer!
Sympathy for you though!
Interestingly, mine is/was NSR too.
Where in Moray are you? I'll be in and around Aviemore this weekend.
