Still give it a go at the dealer.
What has given up? is it the motor or the wiping motion?

It could be that the wiper arm is loose on the spindle

There is a known problem with the cog mechanism inside the motor. The cog is made of plastic and in the design, there is no "stop" on the outside by the wiper arm to stop it being pulled down against the cog.
People have been closing the tailgate using the wiper arm to pull down the window and this is ripping the cog teeth out (The cog meets the spec for the use in normal conditions, but not for the weight and force used to close the tailgate from open)

How do you know ?

And do you think people are really that dense (and tall) that they would do this and not use the leading edge of the tailgate or even the handy and very visible grab handle ?

Not sure if it is known problem, but I have seen people trying to do it on my car. You can't see the normal outer handle when it is up in the air, so they grab the outer edge of boot and as it comes down they reach over to grab something to pull it down (so in fact it's worse if your shorter, not taller !!) and the rear wiper is in the perfect place. Normally right where the wiper arm fits to the wiper motor.

Fortunately I have stopped them.

Get it reported and replaced by the dealer!!
It's a three year warranty ... not a 2yr, 11 month, 3 week and 2 day warranty!
If it's in the timeframe whenever it happens, it's under warranty!

my dealer even replaced a bit for me under warranty AFTER it had expired.

That sounds like an excuse made up by a dealer or LRCS not to replace the item.
