Hydraulic lifter, injectors or cam chains Noise added live
Hi guys, would like to know how long and really what’s involved for me to sort this. Read the manuals and Jesus !!! Basically may as well say take the lot out so I’m after your advice as to if I have to take as much as it’s saying out or any tips. Also a list of bits I’m going to need and maybe bits I won’t because the manual says throw all and buy new bolts nuts and pipesMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Can I ask what is leading you to changing the lifters?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Old trick on sticky lifters if that is indeed the fault is a pint of diesel in the sump oil and give it a good run, obviously done at your own risk?

Diesel in the oil is the last thing you want to do
If you need to flush, use a proper solution. But no amount of flushing will restore leaking lifters that clatter.
Body off is easier, if you have a ramp. The cams have to come out and the from is easygoing, but at the back you’ve got the vac pump on one side and fuel pump pulley on the other.Joe

you don't want to be changing the lifters.
Drivers side isn't too bad, though it is a lot of work, just to get the cam cover off.
cambelt requires removal too.
Doing the passenger side is a pain body on.
Much better off with some oil flush and then change

Doesn’t that lead to a runaway engine? Asked as a complete non techie but ISTR hearing that.

Sadly diesel in oil on modern engines is nothing new (google it, it is a probelm on all makes) and as I said was an old trick that did work.
Also an excellent oil flush for sludge etc.

t'other way round ... oil in the diesel
and to expand on what Lynalldiscovery has said, I thought this was a "design feature" on D5s ... designed to catch out all those drivers who have the wrong driving style.

Basically I brought the car January time as my other D3 was wrote off, because I don’t have a lot of service history on this one I want to do time kit, oil pump, fuel pump belt / tensioner and whilst engine is in bits cam chains and lifters. I’ve done a oil flush and filter and I’ve done the injectors. I still have a tappety rattle so I’m guessing just do the rest whilst in bitsMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

It’s hard to explain but when cold it’s not to bad and sound good, little bit rough but when warm the top is noisy. The noise I believe is both sidesMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
