Can I lock all 4 wheels after ending up in a ditch?
After going into a ditch and wanting to put the car into rock crawl to lock all 4 wheels I had no luck. All it would do is flash and the best I could do was to lock the front axle and the rear axle but not all together, so annoying!
My o/s/f and n/s/r wheels were firmly on the ground but so too was the chassis just behind the front wheels. The n/s/f and o/s/r wheels were both off the ground. Fortunately in the end my brother turned up with his Defender, we attached a wire and after a small tug I was out.
So the question is how can I get it into rock crawl after I am already in the predicament and the option just flashes?
Is there an override?
Thanks in advance to anybody with a suggestion other than call a defender owner.

Assuming you haven’t added lockers or have the rear locker, I don’t think there is a mechanical way to lock all 4 wheels to drive. You only have the central diff lock and computers!

Theoretically the system should sense which wheels have traction and deliver drive to them no matter what you have selected on special programs...if however you were bellied out and unable to raise the chassis further then you have to arrive at a point where you realise it's not a magic machine.

Your car should have sensed it was grounded and automatically gone into Extended Mode ride height. Once in extended mode, you can invoke an emergency Super extended mode by pressing the brake pedal, and holding the suspension height selector into the raise position for 4 seconds.
This will raise the car a few cms over the normal extended height.
With regard to wheels off the ground, the car should apppy the brake to the off ground wheel, therefore sending power to the wheels in contact. You need to give a bit of throttle to make this happen.
You can also switch off the DSC to minimise traction control involvement.
At the end of the day, the laws of physics determine if you are beached hard enough to stop progress. A Disco is heavy and once beached is a dead weight.
In a cross axle situation, the D3/4/5 will always be better than a Defender without traction control, or diff lockers.
if you slammed/dropped into a ditch, strongly recommend checking wheels are securely fastened on straight after you get out and again after a few miles. I managed to snap a wheel bolt once, although admittedly not in a Disco.

To engage rock crawler you must engage low range (otherwise just flashes). To engage low range you need to be in neutral not park.

Exactly - you needed to have gone into Low Range to get into Rock Crawl which would have locked the centre diff and opened the cross valves in the suspension.

Were you in low range? I can’t remember if it auto switches for you or not.

Ok thanks to all, its seems it must have been the low range option that caught me out and obviously I was NOT in Neutral, as I do remember keep putting it in park. Perhaps I should have googled it whilst stuck in the ditch waiting for my rescuer. I won't forget that next time and not that I'm in a habit of driving into ditches.
Thanks to Gareth for the advice on the super extended height option too, I'm sure that will save my bacon one day too!
