I can't stop...
....looking out of the window at my first Land rover....
I've wanted one for so long and this thing is so damn handsome - I am starting to worry about becoming obsessed with it.
I just love it. 1.5 weeks since getting the old but good looking beast, still black and shiny as Ive washed it so many times I wonder if I'll ever tire of the look. From every angle even 7 years since launch it would be hard to improve upon (the shape) I think.
Well... although I'm still struggling to sort my harsh air suspension and the couple of other early niggles, at least the thing looks good.

I'm a saddo I know, but the answer's yes!
I also love the engine sound (only when backing out of the parking space).... a deep growling pulsating sound! Don't like the diesel rattle much, but that's very minor and only when revving slightly through town.
I can imagine most of you grumps/realists laughing at how my smile will soon dissapear as the many parts on it start to fall to bits (if reading this forum is anything to go by) As long as it gets my family to middle-France and back in the August holidays then that will keep me happy.

Don't know about that, I've had the permagrin for over two years now and still no signs of it fading Clive

Reassuring.
Reading customer reviews amongst the few 'no stars' 'worst car ever' 'warning, do not buy one of these' people, there are loads who say it's the beth thing since sliced bread.
Interesting what a 4x4/LR specialist mechanic said to me and that they are often quite different. Some sound rattly, some shake, some vibrate and others do all sorts differently but when checked, theres' nothing wrong with them and that's just the way they are. Different!.... so I suppose mine is just great except with springs so blinking hard that the windscreen will pop out if I hit the wrong type of pot hole one day! (Which he also said was quite normal!... different to the reviews quoting superb cushioning suspension hiding every bump'!)

I've still got the Permagrin after four years! Even the few faults I have had are nothing compared to the joy when it's going well (which has been the vast majority of 100,000 miles).
I thought I had a rattly one until I discovered the difference between makes and grades of diesel. When ever mine starts to get a little noisy I treat it to a couple of tank-full's of expensive shell and all's quiet for a while. (Try filling up in Germany and you'll see how bad the mix of diesel we get in the UK is... sounds like a V8 over there!)

The point on fuel is valid I believe - I used to be able to tell difference on D3 - only ever used the premium stuff in my D4

Got mine in dec 2010 and still got a permagrin, sometimes when i get home from work i take it for a drive just for the sheer hell of it. even bin known on a sunday after lunch and a bottle of rioja to sit in it on the drive and chill, the wife has even joined me once......it's like a drug........new servo under lr recall.....new intercooler hose and repair to washer bottle, so far but strangely enough i dont care too much because i love the beast.....
The best thing about owning a d3 is this site, because most members are enthusiasts and offer their knowledge openly and you dont feel alone, i have learnt so much from this site without it i would not have bought a d3.Buck blue, auto, hse, Loving it !!!!!!!!!
i ain't loaded, paid over the odds, but hell this is the B******s

See... isn't it nice to hear some positives!!.... no talk of bushes, regulators, wishbones, dampers, control arms, foo foo valves and tickling pins etc etc.... nice to focus on the good for a chage.

I think I'll try a different diesel. My first fill up was BP I think, the second (running now) was £100 worth of Sainsbury's City Diesel which is much more rattly I'm sure.
Are there engine oil additives like the old STP I used to put in my Ford Escort in the 80s that used to quiet the engine??!!

Wouldnt bother with additives - I just use the premium stuff - about 8p a litre more, or £6.40 a tank - all seems to be OK

I've always and without exception used BP Ultimate, it even has a different smell. Engine smooth as silk and never rattly. I know of another D3, similar year and mileage always uses Tesco or whatever is cheapest and the thing rattles like hell.
Buying the BP Ultimate & Shell Optimax type fuels is paying through the nose for an enhanced Diesel.
I agree that the fuel is better, smoother, more responsive better MPG etc etc and have done for years, but do not line the pockets of the oil giants, buy the addatives, I have done for over3 years now .
Millers & Wynns both do a great one you can try, once you know you like it buy in bulk from the chemical manufacturer, the addative is 2 methyl hexile nitrate or something simular, it is a Cetane booster or enhancer, thats all your getting in the optimum fuel options.
I buy in 20L drums for just over £100 delievered, enough to treat 20,000L of diesel and split it with mates and family, although 5L drums are available. I do "overdoese" the fuel at 1ml per Litre of fuel for simple maths at the pump and use a pub 50ml spirt measure for every 50L of diesel.
