I don't think I could have done it in any other car!
I got back to WORCS at around 7.30pm after driving 680 miles non-stop apart from the ferry and a fuel stop!
The drive (from Lyon to home) was completely stress free due to the combination of Cruise Control (only thing that prevents my knee locking) and the supportive/upright seating position. I was carrying an expensive landscape picture of Birmingham which measured 2.5m by 45cm together with other items from an exhibition. The Satnav made getting in and out of Lyon which is a mass of tunnels a doddle, I had three free days whilst there and I simply de-selected Toll-Roads and Major roads from the settings and it took me all the most scenic back roads around the Rhone valley.
I can't recommend the car enough and after 30 years of driving and many tens of cars owned it has got to be by far the most versatile.

You've done well to get in and out of Lyon unscathed.
I used to live there and I never managed once to navigate in / out successfully. Even the locals despair of the lack of road planning...
680 miles non-stop is one heck of a long drive, even in a car as comfortable as a D3. Most I've managed is 350 non-stop.Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

I did London to Lake Como in our 1st TDi 300 (manual, no aircon or cruise!) in 1996 - 850 miles in 12 hours. That was pre- (are we there yet) kids. These days, 463 from London to Perth is the longest regular commute and my neck is killing me by the end of it because of the naff seats in the "S".No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!

Well, I did Lake Geneva to Manchester, about 700 in 11 hours in a 200Tdi Disco, in the middle of August, with no air con, AND 3 kids...

Can't walk anywhere around here, too many floods. As some kid was quoted on the Radio 2 "its the wettest drought I've ever seen". 8)
PS was trying to persuade wife to change D2 to a Freelander, her response was "U get a D3 HSE & I get a poxy Frellander". She gets her D3 S Auto Friday & I'm oficially broke!

This weekend I ran a lure coursing meeting in Newbury, so my car was a motorway cruiser sat at 85 all the way, it was then used to tow a huge transit van into the venue which was on a sloping field and rather wet. By late afternoon the field was like a marsh and the D3 was rescue vehicle pulling numerous cars and this bloody great transit again (with the world's most useless woman driver) and then back on the motorway home. All with no fuss or bother in great comfort.
We had a bit of a game with the transit, which I was told was a 3 tonner, it didn't help that I found out afterwards she had her foot on the brake
I am now turned into a car cleaner as there is nearly as much mud inside as out, with the alpacca leather turned into a nice dark brown but it all cleaned up!DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
