I am about to give up on my Disco...
Owned my 2006 Disco3 for more than 2 years now but second Suspension problem in less than 12 months and total downtime of about 3 months due to other problems in between, I am having serious thoughts about getting rid of her.
The problem is I cant find an alternative:
-Cool
-People carrier + dog carrier
-Safe
-Pleasure to drive
-Easy to maintain in Singapore (not the best place to own a LR in terms of servicing/repairs)
Does a Defender90 fit the bill?

Defenders are great fun, very cool, easy and cheap to maintain they really are big meccano kits, niggly problems but never stopped even at 16 years old ...... but have to drive it to work every day? Not so sure on that although later ones may be a bit better and if you aren't going too far then maybe.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

its about 9-10km each way and not so much traffic...I think I could live with that...
I was looking at Disco4s and have seen a few at the dealers service section. Have asked the mechanic chief (I made friends with after my frequent trips) and he told me quietly that they are not free of problems and keep coming back for suspension problems mainly... After 7 years in production, no major changes in the suspension dept... thats scary...

I can see myself going a defender route one day, despite my wifes horrified protests.D3 incl. genuine glass windscreen, front bi-focal headlights, full width rear bumper, self levelling washer bottle contents and audible 'tick tock' indicator stalk

I came from a Def'ner to a D3 - the D3 does far more - and whilst I thought a '97 Def'ner would be cheap motoring it wasn't
Capital costs of the D3 is more, but would say running costs are pretty close - especially with a warranty.
And no comparison between comfort and factorMark.

Oh, bad idea.
Better treat it like a friend.
You know you can choose your friends but you're stuck with your family forever.
With good friends, you can remember how great it was... or not. If not, let them go.
With family you might just shrug at what they *can* do and get agitated over what they *have* done.

TLC. can be administered in many different ways!! TFC is one way, me flogging her across the Tunisian Sahara is another way. She's suffering withdrawal symptoms.

barkiny,
If swmbo gets her new job, then in 2 years time we could well be relocating to singapore for her to set up their new office. Whilst part of me would welcomed that, the downside is having to give up my d3. Everyone says on the expat forums thats its not worth importing a car unless its surgically attached to your backside and wallet. How expensive is it to buy/run/keep a d3?
