I hesitate to ask

but what happened in the thread where the (ex)Syrian chap left his gun for his kid to pick up? I was at the hospital all afternoon and much of the evening yesterday and it was gone when I next popped on here. Did a slanging match break out or was there another reason it was removed?

I understand from other mods that it was removed following complaints

About the thread or the link? A link that I preceded with a very prominent warning?

If the latter I'm a little surprised, as a previous link from another member to a video of a family being wiped out by a truck on a motorway in Italy was deemed acceptable. I even had a pm from a mod telling me that to remove that one "would simply be censorship".

Given the clear and prominent warning of the content of the link I'm almost hoping it was a fight that caused it's removal Confused

I think the main difference is that the other video did not feature any people and was taken at great distance, just showing vehicles crashing ...where as yours showed someone clearly getting shot at close range.

Every complaint requires a judgement based on consideration of the facts available at the time. In this instance it was deemed that removal was a reasonable response. Posting a disclaimer does not always guarantee that the linked content is acceptable on this site.

Hmmm, frustrating. I tried to find an english language news account of the incident to post but it was only covered in the Syrian papers and, well, babelfish doesn't do the translation any justice. I figured a clear disclaimer explaining the content would be adequate and those who had replied when I left for hospital didn't seem offended. It never fails to baffle me that people ignore content warnings then complain. A shame as I was keen to see how the debate developed following other posts on gun ownership recently. I hasten to add that I'm broadly pro gun ownership with appropriate controls.

Cheers for coming back with an explanation, regardless of whether I agree with it it's good of you to tell me what happened. Thumbs Up

regardless of whether it was 'right' to show it, and I don't want to speak ill of the 'deceased' but I can't think that humanity as a whole has lost any depth with this unfortunate individual's demise....

No, it was the GI* clinic, not the GU clinic Laughing

(*Gastro Intestinal)

Hey, next time I go I will have to sit there and eat various crab, lobster and prawn dishes over the course of several hours while reading a decent book, watching a dvd or two and attended to by my own nurse and a crash trolley

Make sure you go through the right door then, or the whole DVD, Book and Nurse situation will not be what you expected Shocked

Alan, it was me who removed the thread. I removed after it was reported. It was a little gruesome.

I know its a bit late to say this, but I had intended to send you pm explaining why I had deleted it, when I was dragged away from the computer by swmbo for household duties, which went on for quite some time and I duly forgot. My apologies.
