How do I install my towbar storage module?
Hi all,
My D4 came without the storage unit for the towbar when it is off. I have sourced one from the wreckers, but it's not immediately obvious how to install it.
When I look at where it goes, there are no visible spots to bolt the tabs on the unit to:
I assume I need to trim the carpet in the cubby itself? And the tabs must come out under the plastic side panel trim, into the load space - is there a captive nut hidden under the carpet?
I did have a quick look at removing the side carpet (the one with the load securing ring) to have a look but it wasn't obvious how to do so......
I wanted to get the proper storage rather than leave the towbar loose, as I figured it would likely damage the pipes and wiring for the rear aircon.
Can anyone help?King of the typo.

Not sure of it will fit with rear AC. From when mine came out it was from where your AC pipes are.
Though I may be wrong, it has been known.

You're right, not a lot of room!
But I have definitely seen photos of them installed with the aircon, so I'm hoping there is a sensible way....King of the typo.

Yes they do fit with the AC unit.
Best bet especially with the AC unit is to remove the 1/4 panel plastic trim. You will also need to remove the two luggage securing loops on the floor on that side and pull that piece of carpet/trim up. this will expose two bolt holes that from memory will be just in the boot side of the trim for the bracket to bolt to. Bolt in place replace the carpet/trim and then re-fit the 1/4 pane;l trim. Job done. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Brilliant, thanks Russell. That's what I was hoping to hear.
Is the 1/4 panel straightforward to remove? Any hidden clips etc?King of the typo.

There is an official guide on this site somewhere that I've just spent 5 mins looking for and not found
From memory - unclip N/S rubber trim and undo screws in the plastic on that side and on the floor . Panel should then lift up to add storage unit under and then reverse process

The none AC models cn be fitted without re-moving trim but are still fiddly, cannot be done without removing panel for AC models at least without risk of damage to AC.
Think Wiggs did a guide on how to remove trim panel.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

From memory the tow bar only goes one way, the ball points to the front and the wedge shape bit goes towards the back word of caution watch the wedge shape does not rub on the light/tow bar electrics cablingMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Thanks again Russell.
I was being slightly younger in cheek, as I do have it in there. But you are absolutely right about the electrics, mine don't seem to be as well wrapped in binding as others I have seen, so I will need to come up with a way to keep things a little tidier in there before a fault occurs!King of the typo.
