Could be a bit of a laugh Duncan

Yep, did that once a long time ago with my Range Rover that had a capstan winch on it.
Soon got the proper rope though & some tuition!.
Any one seen the Jack Jackson book " Four Wheel Drive".
A couple of pictures of a very young & much slimmer Non Stick who was in those days just Nick, doing the Capstan bit.
"Stupid things we did before we knew better, but got away with"
Shall I start?......
Once sprayed the coil of my V8 auto defender 90 that was spluttering after a dip in the water!.
Got a sheet of flame back in my face for my trouble.
Singed
Non StickI am a hob nobber.

Where? I don't have a winch but after a brief intro at Rockingham which was good I would be interested
Especially if there is some other stuff as well I could do.

I once got Betsy stuck at the Bala site when LRO used to run the driving days there. I asked a guy with a unimog to tow me out backwards, only thing is, Betsy was on the old chassis and did not have a recovery point on.
So a rope was tied through the pto hole in the rear crossmember, and the other end tied to the unimog which was despatched at a good speed. The recovery worked, but it ripped the rear crossmember off the chassis rails in the process!

Having used both steel & plasma, I would not want to rely on the plasma, it is just too fragile, prone to damage and unpredictable for my liking. I've not seen any evidence of plasma being 'stronger' for the same rating and a properly constructed and pre-stressed steel cable does not stretch anywhere near 10% of what a plasma cable does in normal use. I also understand that plasma cable is degraded by exposure to UV light
So here's the killer question....
IF plasma cable is 'much better' than steel, why is it not used in construction projects, for lifting crane gear or by emergency / recovery services?

BCB dont buy a steel rope TFC might have a spare one soon at a nice price
Too late! Uncle Ray has sorted me out with one of his spares, and we've spent a diverting hour this evening demonstrating to the local yoof how to pre tension it.
And I've arranged a 1:1 training session in a couple of weeks with a local expert so that I know the dos and don'ts next time.
Away you go now, you can use my thread to have an argument about plasma vs. steel, and arrange a training weekend.

Perhaps i should of waited till you were free before i put mine on
I only loaded mine by the strenght of me pulling it tight .....
Are you free any time ...or could you help do it on the morning of Tong ..thats if your still going ..
I would rather check its done properly than risk damage ..
