Should I be worried???
I have noticed a rattling tappety noise from my engine on tickover, only when I first start it up. After being driven up the road the noise stops. But if I were to switch off the car, and then restart - I would have the same rattling tappety noise - until I drive the car again.
I am not a mechanic - and know zilch about even how an engine works , so can anyone tell me if this is the start of a mechanical problem in future - that therefore needs looking into and sorting now.
I would hate to leave it - and then have something major occurr.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Bodsy, thanks for the response - I had a service approx. 3 months (4000 miles) ago, so I assume the oil would be OK.
Infact the noise seems to have started since having the service, was thinking of going back to mechanic to query this - but wondered if anyone knew of any potential problems before I sought his advice.

If its a really light clicky noise and just for a few seconds after startup, its the injectors apparently
at least thats what I was told

Engine Noise...loud or not?
Just for info my 08 plate sounds like a bag of nails when it first starts and always has.
Duckies say that's how they are and the noise subsides after a few seconds.
It does seem noisy when running, but apparently that's what you get with an agricultural vehicle!!
Have used Slick 50 and Injector cleaner to no avail, also changed oil recently.
Anyone have a quiet one out there or am I just being picky??
Can't complain as it's doing 35mpg round town mind...
Warranty up in 9 months..
Cheers
Mike

IIRC, the Euro IV motors are noisier than the Euro III versions.

EGR valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve
It 'bleeds' teh exhaust gases back into the air intake (after the filter) to help reduce emissions by allowing the gases to be 'burned' for a 2nd time
It's basically a load of they often fail and you will end up in almost limp mode when they do
They chatter on start up to aparently 'self clean'
I would get them blanked off at the first opourtunity if I were you, it helps fuel economy and power (performance) will also benefit.
To have them replaced by LR (out of warranty) will sety youback around £450+Never get mad - get even !!
