Cheers Steve, I am doing fine now. Thumbs Up

I just thought I had turned my 2 day old Disco4 into a huge paperweight! Big Cry

Patrick did stress that there is nothing really that I could do to break it!

I was more confident messing around with the IIDTool on the 2006 FullFat I had before moving to the Disco but I am looking forward to the new release.

Thanks again,

Grant

Will the Ipac firmware update and changes to its view you mention give the dealers reason to suspect modification to it and void warranty ?

Surely it's the same as any of the others mods to the software, sat nav on move, off road info on D3's etc. all the changes are visible in one way or another. This is especially true if they compare to the original build sheet.

I see it differently to be honest but that may be just me.

Yes a car may have a 4x4 info screen or Timed climate button extra than it should have compared to standard but it could have left the factory like this and it will only be visible as not supposed to be there if they compare to the original As-built data.

Where as this is making it visibly different straight away by giving the Ipac 2012 software look on a 2010 car which is not a factory option.

This surley which simply cant have been done at the factory is more visiblely wrong than just EG the 4x4 info screen activation turned on or the timed climate ?. at least these were a factory option and without checking the As-built they wont know.

Im not trying to offend anyone im just trying to ask about changing the software look to something that was not designed for that car by changing the look even more than just an activation which would worry me as it was not a purchasable option to have a 2012 look software on a 2010 car.

I assume if the car goes into the dealers and they connect it to SDD the added patch that changes the look can be removed by putting the correct software back on the car ?

It's not offending me, I don't have a D4 Thumbs Up

I guess it depends on how observant the dealer is as well. The one thing I have never been sure of is whether a mod could be used to cancel a warranty issue if the modified part is nothing to do with the fault.

Is the instument pack upgrade originally LR software, as I guess that would be a key thing.

Speaking from past expeience, LR will invalidate a warranty for anything they think they can and once they pull it you have onehell of a job to get them to change their minds.

I had a Defender TDCi that was one of those with the oil pickup problem i.e. was in the VIN range and when it went wrong LR pulled the warranty on the full drive train due to my having a RAI (Safari one). When I argued they said it did not leave the factory with one and granted the dealers sell them but they refused to fix the engine.

I even got them to confess that if I had fitted a Halfords bulb they could pull the warranty on the electrics if they wanted Exclamation Exclamation

So if you are changing the display from a 2010 to a 2012 they will notice and then the fun begins - as Pete says adding 4x4 info is not noticible unless they check the original spec and even then a dealer could have added it for a fee Thumbs Up

I don't think many LR employes will notice the difference on the instrument cluster ... It's just a slightly less grainy difference .

I think they'd have more chance of noticing the 4x4 stuff !!

Perhaps you need to see it in the flesh then

I certainly wouldn't have any problems taking mine in with 2012 software on

Do you think that many techs look at the binnacle in that detail or do they just plug the T4 in and read that?

Given that many LR dealers sometimes can't find their own LR technical builetins without us either printing them off or having the ref number will LR (via Liam or not) care enough to ask their dealers to look out for (who knows how small) 1% of Disco4 owners that might have the IIDTool? And to what end purpose?

I think it is something that people do need to aware of before using the tool but it maybe easily seen on a side by side pics but on the screen with different light /dust/crap on the binnacle - I think it would be hard.

But, as has been said LR may be slippery enough to get out of honouring any warranty work.

Out of interest - If a 2010 has a duff info centre will the replacement be the old or new software one?

Having worked at a major dealership (not LR) and as a lawyer I can def say two things:
1. IMO most techs would not notice the difference. But maybe I am misjudging the 'aha' effect of the 2012 cluster look on the viewer.
and
2. when dealing with warranty claims, manufacturers behave just like insurance co's (same interest constellation). If they can find a reason to get out of honoring a claim without compromising other interests (publicity, fleet customer, etc), they will.

But to answer everyones question: yes, we can -and do - backdate the cluster FW. This is offered as an option in the IIDTool's menu. The update/backdate procedures take about 50secs.
