Back in the old days, they used to put the old parts in a box and leave them in the boot. It was the only proof the job was done
But that was a long, long time ago - when everything was black and white and we all wore flat caps. D3 HSE V8...

Ah I see, so the question then is what is the life expectancy of the bearings if they are still under warranty (unlimited warranty!). is it listed as part of the maintenance schedule like brakes? The burning question is what should and shouldn't be considered to be 'maintained' anything that doesn't have a maintenance schedule, surely you have a right to assume will last the lifetime of the warranty. as it is stated to be unlimited mileage.....Bodsys Brake Bible

LRCC have just called to say they have been onto the warranty department and the initial response was. They would expect bearings to fail after 60k so its not a warranty claim LRCC explained to them that 3 years un-limited means un-limited not un-limited but as long as its below 60k. LLCC are expecting an answer tomorrow via email. If the outcome is not in my favour then....... well put it this way, I have been filling my pram with toys all day.
LLCC very efficient and polite. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Very interesting (in an anorakish way), as imo, bearings lasting for 85k miles on a vehicle the weight etc. etc. of a D3 is very good.
BUT, the warranty is for 3 years & unless specifically stated that wheel bearings aren't covered, it could be difficult to establish that they are wear/tear items, in the same category as say tyres/brakes or even a clutch.
Look forward to hearing the outcome of this, hope it goes your way Andrew.
It is interesting that you get 3 years unlimited milege whereas over here in the states we get 4 years / 50K miles whichever is first. As you can imageine we almost all hit the 50k miles first!David

As I understand it, some dealers are allowed to do the work and put in a warranty claim where as others need to contact LR before carrying out the work to check if it is covered by warranty.
My dealer is in the first category and if he decided that the work was under warranty and then it was refused by LR, I would expect him to take the hit (which I think he would) or at the very least be reasonable about the labour rates....
You may already know this (I didn't)...all of the dealership's overheads are paid for by work done in the workshops which explains why they are so high....

Were they actually knackered? as in broken/pitted/rumbling, or were they just loose? Maybe JV were a bit 'forward' by replacing them, when all that was actually needed was an adjustment? Just a thought.

LR publish a list to the dealers of items that require pre-authorisation before warranty work (called WPAP - 'Warranty Parts Authorisation Procedure' I think), this list changes periodically (although some items are on it permanently). All dealers have to get these items authorised, the reason the list changes is to ensure that the dealers don't just change items whilst 'chasing the fault'... it's possible that wheel bearings were on the list and AndrewS dealer didn't check first....

Surely the fact that knackered bearings seems to be a rarity strengthens the case. Personally, I would take the tack that they could't have been installed a greased properly from the outset. Bearings are not consumable parts like brakes, clutch etc. I concur with the small claims court route. Make LR prove that this was fair wear and tear by producing stats that show the incidence of bearing failure in sub 84k cars.D4 HSE MY2015

3 years / 60K miles in Ireland, which is one of the reasons I got my D3 in the UK, but it seems as if LR's definition of unlimited mileage isn't quite unlimited.
Hope you hear from LR with some positive news Andrew. However, even if you do, I think that this is only something we'll see more of in the future as more and more vehicles get higher mileages in the later stages of the warranty based on what we've started to see. Brendan , Interested to see you bought in UK . I presume that our local dealer still provides the full warranty service ?.Curently at 72000 kms and rough conversion means that I only have 24000 kms left before I have to start forking out myself ? That also equates to only approx 6 months of worry free driving.
