I have read with interest the benefits of having a remap done. However I have a couple of questions:
1. If the remaps improve economy, performance and driveability why don't LR use these maps in the first place?
2. If I have a remap what is the implication for my LR warranty?

LR Warranty. Don't tell them.
I have never had my D3 remapped but when it was in last summer for what turned out to be a turbo swap the dealer asked me outright "have you had a remap?" and when I asked why they said that "LR had instructed the dealers to ask" implying that certain engine related warranty claims WOULD BE REJECTED if this was the case.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

They would have to prove that the modification caused the failure though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Baben challenged our dealer to find proof that the remap had been done (by reading the ECU I guess) and they couldn't

generally speaking it's pretty easy to spot remaps - the remap changes the fuel\air values at just about all rpm's - even easier if they increase the boost. That said, if push comes to shove they do have to prove that the remap caused the damage - but it's reasonably straight forward given the remap can be proven to increase stress on the components & thus increased wear & tear. We all know it's tosh but if it's something that will save them money, most dealers & warranty companies will try to throw a claim out if the car is modified in that area. That said, generally speaking they won't go looking for it automatically - though Audi do\did when I had my s4. and most of the tech's don't care.

Simple really
.1 - dont tell them
.2 - Get your remap done with the remap GODS at Bell Auto Services, where the customer always comes first
.3 - Use the BAS technology to its best and remove the remap every time your anywhere near the Stealers, and if asked just tell them " Whats a remap, can you do this for me, it sounds good, how much is it"
.4 - Reinstall your remap in about 30seconds after leaving the Stealers
