Importing a commercial D3 into the UK |
|
Can anyone advise on the potential hurdles of importing a commercalised 05 Discovery 3 into the Uk from Ireland. It would have left the factory as a S passenger model and was then commercaised on entry to Ireland. The process envolved removing all rear seats, blacking out and disabling all rear windows, removing all rear seat belts, fitting a platform where the rear seats were to make a continious flat floor from front to rear before being sold as a new Discovery 3 commercial. What are factory commercial Discovey 3/4's registered as in the UK? Anthony

Hello, I'm new to the forums too, so be gentle peeps : )
When you ask about hurdles, how do you mean, are you thinking about leaving the car stock, converting it back to a car, mods etc.
Might be able to help since my D3 is a former Irish Rover

importing commercial into uk |
|
hi
i have done just that
most commercials in eire are passenger cars tha are changed in dublin as required.
that is the first problem as it now needs type approval [a visit to vosa] as it is not as
the log book.this is not too bad,all the info and forms can be downloaded.
the biggest pain in my case,09 car, was changing the speedo to miles[£500]
and a lot of hassle,
we had to phone landrover to get written permission then name a dealer to do
the work. after this it was a trip to vosa for type approval [10 mins ] then over the
road to get in taxed and new number plate, which took a week to come through.
this was all done in birmingham.
also you will need insurance to tax so will have to insure on the vin number,in our
case was with direct line.
you would think by getting a new speedo and haveing it enabled would be ok but
it wont work, TFC helpfully pointed me in the right direction,
there are very few dealers who have done this speedo change but guy salmon,
coventry,have now done their first.
if i can be of any help pm me and i will get swmbo to have a chat as she done all
the correspondense with all partys

Thanks you for your informative responses. George the UK classification for a factory commercial Discovery will be very useful for comparison and to steer the process in the right direction.
Windygeorge I want to import the vehcile by the most cost effective method and keep it in it current format as a commercial light goods vehicle.
Mike you have recently done it that is great, I had started to look into the speedo change and was hoping it was a dial chage or a tranfer attachment, but was not envisaging the cost you have quoted! I will PM you for further info.

Looks like you've got quite a challenge on your hands! - My car was already converted at Lakeland Land Rover so I was fortunate enough to have had all the difficult work done! Good luck with the import in the mean time, I can tell you that they are a superb van and a pleasure to own.
